Treatscast 07 - Moody Grooves
I just feel so damn sad about the state of the world in general. It’s been such a hard time for so many of us. I’ve been going though some difficult times of my own recently, and feeling a lot of grief, anger, fear, anxiety, loneliness, frustration, boredom and ennui, but also a lot of hope that things can be different. I wanted to try to process these feelings through interacting more deeply with tracks that resonated with them, editing and blending beyond what I could do live.
In the absence of gigs, parties and crowds of dancers to guide the mix, I tried to be guided more emotionally and intuitively in my selection and timing, and spent many hours carefully crafting each moment of this journey. If the only way out is through, I invite you to dive into these evocative grooves. It may be uneasy listening, but hopefully it gives you a place to feel uncomfortable emotions, and inspires some fresh new moves for the future.
I'll be writing some more info about these tracks on my blog soon http://www.treatscast.com/bl0g

Treatscast 06 - Star Journey
It started as a mix inspired by the Voyager Golden Record. Then I got obsessed with the Star Trek soundtrack, explored early experimental electronic music, dived into deep, sumptuous ambient synth tracks… and this became a sort of loose history of unearthly music.
This is one for those deep solo journeys, with the possibility of altering states, or enhancing altered states. Many months of work have gone into piecing this together, both through live jams and fine editing outside of real time. It has been a cathartic process involving a lot of alone time through winter, and working through the death of my father during lockdown.
We loved Sci-fi, watching things like Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Doctor Who and Star Trek together. I have so much gratitude for his life.
Dedicated to my Dad,
Love,
Treats

Treatscast 05 - Move
These tracks were gathered for festival appearances in this late summer season down here in Australia. Now that we have some time to rethink things, I rethought this mix.
Thinking about my friends in the events and entertainment industry climbing up the walls in this challenging time. Stay strong, we'll get through this. In the mean time let's not forget to move.
I've realised, through going through some difficult emotions recently, how important and effective moving my body is to my physical and mental wellbeing.
Now that we're stuck at home, this mix serves as an exhortation to get up and move. Whether it's running, working out, or even dancing, this mix contains some of the more powerful bass & beats on the market today.
Frenetically edited from hundreds of hours of jams, I've literally had too much time to spend on this one, so much so that I went to town a bit on some of the transitions, and it is more like a delicately pieced together podcast rather than a fully live mix.
Use your imagination - how will you move today?
Love,
Treats -
Treatscast 04 - Trailmix
This mix is made for walking. Measuring the bpm from my footsteps, it tracks the 90 minute round trip through the forest from my front door, aiming to evoke the dense, interwoven layers, bustling with life.
Music from Norway, Burkina Faso, Mexico, Japan, Holland, Germany, Mali and the UK loop and twist together in a lush, slow rush towards the light.
Take this mix to the forest, or let this mix bring the forest to you.

Treatscast 03 - Unreleased Aphex Lullabies
This episode is a collection of the most sleepy pieces from Aphex Twin's recent Soundcloud dump of over 200 unreleased tracks. An homage to his early ambient works, most of which were allegedly composed in his sleep.
Richard D. James' career is full of myths & legends, stories that could be interesting facts, or cheeky fibs. I’ve delved into a few of these over at my blog

Treatscast 02 - The Bernie Mix
Want to understand more about Bernie Sanders, his ideas? his music taste? I imagined sitting down by the fire with the man himself, talking about his beliefs and listening to some great music.
This mix is inspired by what I could find out about Bernie’s favourite music, along with some tracks that I felt fit with recordings of Bernie in conversation.
Feel the warmth of the fire and his words, and enjoy some classic Civil Rights era Motown, dusty down-home Folk, Native American blues, and a ‘lil Latin groove along with a few other surprises. I hope you dig it & share it with your friends (especially those who work in cafés, bars and shops, let’s put it on loop!)
