Stocks rose Wednesday, extending Tuesday’s advances as investors looked ahead to the first actions of the incoming Biden administration.

Stocks rose Tuesday as traders returned from a long holiday weekend in the U.S. and eyed signs of mounting support for significant fiscal stimulus out of Washington.

As traders return from the long holiday weekend on Tuesday and equity markets reopen, markets will turn their attention to the first days of the Biden administration and to another batch of corporate earnings results.

Stocks pared gains to end slightly lower Thursday, after the Dow and Nasdaq Composite reached fresh record intraday highs earlier in the session.

Stocks rose Wednesday afternoon after fluctuating between gains and losses earlier as traders sought signs of the arrival of more stimulus amid the ongoing pandemic. The S&P 500 and Nasdaq ended higher for a second straight session, while the Dow dipped slightly.
