Episode 783 - The Final Day

Episode 783 - The Final Day

In this episode I'm joined by Tim Stillman to chat about the idea of rivalry in the wake of Man City beating Spurs, and whether that's something managers should pay attention to. We also discuss Mikel Arteta's influence on this Arsenal team and how fans bought into his communication, in contrast to how Tottenham fans reacted to Ange Postecoglou's comments. Then we consider the final day of the season, and how we've pushed City all the way with the outside chance of still winning the league.
Then Tim reflects on the Arsenal career of Vivianne Miedema who's departure was announced this week, as well as some chat about that decision, how it came to pass, and what might happen on the final day of the season.

    Arsecast Extra Episode 584 - 12.05.2024

    Arsecast Extra Episode 584 - 12.05.2024

In this episode recorded not long after the game, we look back at Arsenal's 1-0 win over Man Utd at Old Trafford on Sunday. It wasn't a great performance, but Leandro Trossard's first half goal was enough for all three points and to keep the title push going until the final day. We chat about why the attacking performance was so inhibited, but there's praise for the way we defended against a United side that offered little to threaten us. Underlying it all though, was a sense of pre-game dread, and we discuss that, and the prospect of the final day, as well as answering listener questions about Spurs game against Man City on Tuesday, William Saliba, and much more.

Episode 782 - The impression of calm

First, Real Madrid go through at the expense of Bayern Munich, before we chat about Borussia Dortmund beating PSG – with some discussion of Kylian Mbappe and his time in Paris. Then attention turns to Arsenal, and we talk about William Saliba and how our view of him as Arsenal fans is very different from many in France, Kai Havertz and his development, Martin Odegaard, some broad thoughts on the season as a whole and lots more.

Arsenal Women Arsecast Episode 82: Here comes the summer!

Arsenal Women Arsecast Episode 82: Here comes the summer!

On this episode of the Arsenal Women Arsecast, Tim is joined by Arseblog News match reporter Aidan Gibson. They discuss the win over Manchester City and how it feels to give Chelsea a lifeline back into the WSL title race, then there is in-depth discussion about the futures of Vivianne Miedema and Stina Blackstenius, whose current contracts expire in the summer. Tim and Aidan then talk about the other profiles of player Arsenal might need this summer, especially given their goal scoring record which has been far inferior to Chelsea and Manchester City this season. They discuss whether 25 players is too many for a season and the consistent rotation of the number 10 position and whether it needs greater clarity.

    Arsecast Extra Episode 583 - 06.05.2024

    Arsecast Extra Episode 583 - 06.05.2024

In this episode we look back on the 3-0 win over Bournemouth on Saturday afternoon. The Gunners produced a dominant first half, but it was a late first half penalty that gave us the lead at the break. We analyse the key moments of the opening 45, from the potential red card to the missed chances to the award of the spot kick. Then we look at a second half where Leandro Trossard scored again, but was there a touch of good fortune about Bournemouth's disallowed goal which would have made the game more uncomfortable? Declan Rice's performance merited a goal and he got it late on, and we also answer listener questions about whether he should be used as an 8 more than a 6, potential changes to the coaching staff, the Gabriel Jesus story James wrote last week, some #ANGEOUT, and lots more.

    Episode 781 - Antics

    Episode 781 - Antics

In this episode I'm joined by Sam Dean to chat about Ben White and the focus on his 'antics' from corners. Why the focus now? Will it force him and Arsenal to modify behaviour from set-pieces? And does it obscure discussion of his outstanding quality and consistency as a footballer? We also talk about Gabriel Jesus amid reports around his future, Oleksandr Zinchenko perhaps being more 'at risk' of a departure, the new contract offered to Jorginho and what that means for the summer, as well as chat about proposed new financial rules in the Premier League, games being held in the US, and lots more – including details of our donation to UNICEF.
