The Creation Narrative and Science | Tracy Nyamuda

The Creation Narrative and Science | Tracy Nyamuda

Last week we looked at the importance of the creation narrative with respect to many of our foundational doctrines. Today I would like to pick up where I left off in the creation narrative, namely that death, millions of years, fossilization and evolution cannot be mixed into the creation narrative before God created Adam and Eve. Today I will endeavour to look at evidence around dinosaurs and fossilization, Noah and the flood and the age of the earth.

What we are seeing today is a collapse of the Christian worldview, both outside and inside the church. The first attack on God’s word was in Genesis 3: “Did God really say?” This questioning has continued throughout history, particularly through the teaching of evolution, "ape-man" theories, and the concept of the age of the earth being billions of years and so forth. These ideas can cause Christians to doubt God’s word and ultimately reject it, undermining the authority of the Bible and the Gospel based upon its authority. If we cannot believe the Bible’s history (Genesis 1:1), how can we believe what it says about salvation (John 3:16)? As Jesus said, "If I have told you earthly things and you do not believe, how will you believe if I tell you heavenly things?" (John 3:12, NKJV). If we can’t trust the Bible regarding our origins, how can we trust what it says about morality and salvation? This stumbling block prevents many from receiving salvation.

What's so special about the Bible? | Shaun Roberts

What's so special about the Bible? | Shaun Roberts

Today I want to talk about this magnificent Word. Let me start off by saying that I went through a journey over a number of years where I really dived deep into the historicity of the Bible. Ps Paul knows how many times I asked him about various books or advice on tracking and understanding how the Bible came to be, and what lends it so much credence. I must be entirely honest, I went through a phase myself where I was extremely anxious about the Bible’s authenticity, and this was because I had been challenged by very persuasive atheists who presented strong arguments against the Word. Suffice to say, by the time I had reached the end of that particular journey, I was more thoroughly convinced in scripture than ever before. If you doubt God’s scripture, don’t worry, there is sufficient grace for you, and if you ask the Lord and allow him to lead you, He will guide you to a place where you can be assured of what you believe in.

Faces of Unbelief in Africa | Paul Nyamuda

Faces of Unbelief in Africa | Paul Nyamuda

There are many reasons why people on the African continent have resisted the Gospel. Whilst many have appreciated the idea of needing salvation, they have found it difficult to break away from their traditional African worldview which values the role of intermediaries between God and man. This has resulted in syncretism where many have happily mixed Christianity with traditional African religion and ancestral worship. Others have resisted the Gospel because they perceive it to be from the West. They see Christianity as the religion of the colonialists and essentially the White man’s religion. The truth is that all men everywhere need a saviour because all men everywhere have sinned. The Gospel is not just for the West because the depravity of man cannot be compartmentalised into certain regions of the world. Sin is a human problem. In this message I would like to answer the question; Is Christianity the White Man’s Religion?

Faces Of Unbelief And Scepticism (Pt. 2) | Paul Nyamuda

Faces Of Unbelief And Scepticism (Pt. 2) | Paul Nyamuda

In this message my goal is to highlight the overarching belief system of agnostics and also the post-modern worldview. I will also show you how the Bible has scriptures that speak directly to these beliefs. My aim is to also show you the logical end of these beliefs and the incisive questions one can ask those who hold such views. As we build a skill set for dealing with various faces of unbelief and scepticism, it is important to remember God’s heart for the unsaved and make sure that we carry that heart in all our conversations. Ezekiel 18:23: "Do I take any pleasure in the death of the wicked? declares the Sovereign Lord. Rather, am I not pleased when they turn from their ways and live?" 1 Timothy 2:3-4: "This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth."

The Faces of Unbelief and Scepticism | Paul Nyamuda

The Faces of Unbelief and Scepticism | Paul Nyamuda

In this message I would like to categorize various forms of unbelief and scepticism towards Christianity. I also aim to demonstrate that the Bible has something to say about each of these states. We will focus on atheism. Next week I will explore other forms of unbelief such as agnosticism and the postmodern worldview. After that we will look at the Afrocentric idea that Christianity is a western religion. It is important for us to be grounded in scriptures and know what we believe and why as we begin to engage with society.
