On the Saturday, June 8th edition of The Travel Guys…

    * In the Travel News, Juneau joins the community of “over tourism” destinations, by limiting the number of cruise ships and the number of passengers who can visit each day; plus Dolly Parton’s story is coming to Broadway in 2026.

    * You filed a complaint with a travel company. After some back and forth, they agree to a settlement, but only if you will sign a “non-disclosure agreement.” What is that and should you sign it? The answers in our Smarter Traveler segment.

    * Steve LaRosa checks back in with some details on a recent visit to the Monterey area. There’s a cool Cannery Row landmark well worth adding to your itinerary.

    * Our mailbag session addressed your questions, including “hidden city tickets,” parking at our airport, parking charges at suburban hotels, and how to get a low number to board on Southwest.

American Airlines faces a lawsuit after removing 8 passengers from a plane

American Airlines faces a lawsuit after removing 8 passengers from a plane

    Listen Now

On the Saturday, June 1st edition of The Travel Guys…

    * In the Travel News, American Airlines faces a lawsuit after removing 8 passengers from a plane because of a complaint regarding smell. Then it put the 8 men back on the plane. They are all black men who did not know each other and were seated all over the aircraft. American is now facing a lawsuit from three of the men.

    * Also in the news, Southwest is upping the ante on early boarding pricing. We’ll have an update on this obviously popular Southwest add-on.

    * Our Smarter Traveler segment addresses an important issue: Who you book your airline ticket, your hotel room, rental car, attractions with matters. If you choose to book with a “third party” online, ask yourself, will this company’s customer service team support me if something goes wrong? We explain why when all things are equal you need to book direct.

    * Restaurants in particular are trying to roll out some entertaining new junk fees. Entertaining to talk about, not so entertaining to pay. Seriously, a beef surcharge?

    * Finally, a piece of tongue in cheek humor. It’s from a hotel responding to a guest who feels they have come up a bit short on their promises. This one from the hotel’s point of view is pretty funny to listen to.

Work has begun on new high-speed rail between Las Vegas and Los Angeles

    Listen Now

On the Saturday, May 25th edition of The Travel Guys…

    * Nine different airlines allow you to make a free stay over in their country when your flight connects there. Iceland and Portugal are among the choices. A link is here.

    * Mark spent the week in Newfoundland (the show is coming from there). First, tourism folks share a bit about the province, then Mark gives you some tips based on his stay in St. John’s, the capitol. His conclusion: Newfoundland is a unique destination in North America and should be on everyone’s “must visit” list.

TSA and AAA say the number of Memorial Day Weekend travelers will set a record

    Listen Now

On the Saturday, May 18th edition of The Travel Guys…

    * In the Travel News, both TSA and AAA say the number of people traveling on Memorial Day Weekend will set a record; the Mirage is closing in Las Vegas and we tell you about a cruise ship that failed a CDC inspection.

    * The FAA reauthorization bill has made it through Congress, and with it come some long overdue passenger protections. We’ll review them and tell you about the goofy lawsuit a number of airlines to try and block them from taking effect. “After all, if consumers know the costs up front, how can they possibly be trusted to make an informed decision.”

    * Carnaval San Francisco is the largest and longest running cultural event in the country. We’ll tell you how you can be a part of it in the Mission District next weekend.

    * Susie Stocking and her group of dedicated volunteers continue to look after the veterans who make the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery their final resting place. Be a part of their annual golf tournament and support their efforts to decorate 35,000 graves at Christmas.

    * Our final story focuses on currency exchange when you travel outside the country and how to avoid onerous fees.

    * In the Travel News, Amtrak is having a sale on many of their long distance trains through May 16th. Save at least 30% on certain classes of service. Business travel is showing a significant rebound, and a study pretends to tell us which day of the week to buy your airline tickets. We have our doubts about the findings.

    * Consumer households are paying, on the average, $1,100 in credit card fees every year. Not late fees for missing a payment, but fees that are added to your purchases by merchants to offset the growing cost of your cash-back and triple rewards cards. Are you getting value from your travel credit cards?

    * Mark was in Chicago and Seattle this past week, scouting hotels, restaurants and attractions for upcoming Sports Leisure Vacations trips. He shares tips for some of the spots he visited, including a dive restaurant under the tracks in Chi-town, made famous in a Saturday Night Live skit and Chicago Cubs baseball history.

    * There’s a new vacation rental company joining the fray. We’ll tell you a little about “Rentalz,” and why they say they are different from the others.
