We begin a special collection of Indigenous voices, stories and ideas carefully curated to entertaing and educate during this uniquely hot summer. In order to establish a bridge to the experiences of the Incas, we begin by  listening to Eagle/Walking Turtle as he describes the dislocation the Native People of this land we now call the United States experienced when Europeans arrived, and he invites us to explore their contemporary descendants in the introduction to his book, Indian America. He also introduces us to the concept of the Medicine Wheel, central to the ideas and values of his people.
As we progress in this season, I will lead you to visit all 36 stations of the Medicine Wheel throughtout the summer.
We will visit 3 stations of the 36 in every episode, in order to allow time for reflection.
In each episode, we will also listen to a story from one of the many peoples who were the original inhabitants of many different corners of America, from lands as distant as Alaska to the southernmost tip, La tierra del Fuego.

Al comenzar mi octava temporada, regreso al por qué y a las razones por las cuales Victoria Amazónica, un experimento de narrativa bilingüe, existe. Regreso al comienzo, de manera literal y figurativa, y continúo forulando las preguntas difíciles. Cada uno de nosotros, ¿seremos una flor, o tan solo un pétalo, un pedúnculo, un pecíolo, o un pedicelo, una rama, un tronco, o una hoja? La vida nos pregunta a diario: ¿eligirás relacionarte, iluminar, mejorar, guiar o contribuirás a amplificar la desesperación, el ansia de darnos por vencidos?

As I begin my 8th season, I return to the Why, the What, the reasons why Victoria Amazonica exists as a bilingual storytelling experiment. I return to the beginning, literally and figuratively, and I insist on asking hard questions. Are we each a bloom, a petal, A peduncule, a petiole, or a pedicel,
a branch, a trunk, a leaf? Life insists on asking daily; will you choose to connect, illuminate, enhance, guide or choose to grow the darkness, the despair, the urge to surrender? Join our ongoing adventures in the Emerald Forest and continue to discover nature's answers to humanity's most pressing inquiries.

Llegamos a la conclusión de la larga y compleja historia de la caída del Imperio Inca, la que hemos seguido gracias al poderoso libro de Loren McIntyre, Los Increíbles Incas y su Tierra Atemporal.
Al pensar en todas las traiciones, asesinatos, fuerzas opuestas e intereses que se enfrentaban al fin de esta extraordinaria civilización que se convertía en fragmentos desarticulados, la imagen de un espejo quebrado se quedó en mi mente.
Necesitamos esos espejos quebrados, por muy conveniente que pueda parecer barrer los pedazos y desecharlos. Ellos nos suplican atención y ojos curiosos e ingeniosos.
Un espejo quebrado sigue siendo un espejo, y su destrucción no nos ofrece otra alternativa distinta a aceptar la diversidad y el poder multiplicador de sus muchas partes dispersas.

We reach the conclusion of the convoluted story of the Fall of the Inca empire, which we have been following in Loren McIntyre’s powerful book; The Incredible Incas and their Timeless Land.
As I thought about the betrayals, murders, opposing forces and interests which were at play as this extraordinary civilization was broken into severed fragments, the image of a broken mirror stayed in my mind.
We need those broken mirrors, however convenient it might seem to simply sweep up the pieces and throw them away. They beg for attention and most of all, curious, ingenious eyes.
A broken mirror is still a mirror, and its brokenness offers no option but to embrace the diversity and multiplying power of its many, disparate parts.
Dedicated to all Mothers, wishing we sincerely celebrate  the many ways in which they are sacred seeds that carry, tend and perpetuate life.

En honor al Día de la Tierra, nos damos un descanso de las crónicas de conquista del Imperio Inca y honramos La Primavera Silenciosa, el libro sin igual de Rachel Carson que precipitó el desarrollo de la conciencia ambiental de la humanidad.
Paralelamente, inspirada por una conexión que se me ocurrió al ver El Problema de los 3 Cuerpos, una narrativa basada en una serie de libros contemporánea sobre la amenaza de una invasión extraterrestre y la lucha de la humanidad por aferrarse a la ciencia y a nuestro hogar; el único. Propongo además, un renovado compromiso, fortalecido por el asombro y la humildad, y animado por la verdad que la  Primavera Silenciosa aún susurra:
En la Naturaleza, nada existe independientemente.
