If Rex Heuermann wasn't arrested would he have continued to kill? #rexheuermann #gilgobeach #serialkiller — Since the spring of this year, investigators looking into the Gilgo Beach serial killings case have been operating on the theory that the suspect, Rex Heuermann, committed the killings in his Massapequa Park, New York, home. A source involved in the investigation told CNN the fact that the disappearances occurred during times his family was out of town suggests he may have lured victims to the Long Island home. Investigators believe committing the killings at home would have given Heuermann control of the environment and access to materials that were found at the crime scene, including tape and burlap bags, the source said. One of the reasons the search of the suspect’s home has taken so long is because investigators are also combing for trace evidence that may be linked to the victims, multiple sources said. (CNN)

Breaking: State seeks death penalty against Stephan Sterns

Breaking: State to seek capital case against Stephan Sterns. - The State Attorney’s Office intends to seek the death penalty against Stephan Sterns, the man accused of killing his girlfriend’s daughter, 13-year-old Madeline Soto, according to court records. Sterns is charged with first-degree murder in the case. He is facing one charge of first-degree murder and 60 charges related to sexual battery of a child and possession of sexual material. According to court documents, the State cited four aggravating circumstances that led to their decision: The defendant was previously convicted of another capital felony or of a felony involving the use or threat of violence to the person. The capital felony was committed while the defendant was engaged in the commission of, or an attempt to commit aggravated child abuse. The capital felony was especially heinous, atrocious, or cruel. The victim of the capital felony was particularly vulnerable due to advanced age or disability, or because the defendant stood in a position of familial or custodial authority over the victim.

Ray Tierney presents the planning document regarding Rex Heuermann. A Microsoft Word document with 87 disturbing details has come to light, shedding more insight into the alleged Gilgo Beach serial killer's organized plans for how to murder including supplies such as cat litter and tarps, dump site locations, recon reports, and body prep. This new evidence emerged as the district attorney's office charged Heuermann with two additional murders on Thursday. New digital evidence revealed Heuermann had a "significant collection of violent, bondage, and torture pornography" dating back to 1994, according to court records obtained by Newsweek. The images include breast mutilation, vaginal torture, the sexualization of decapitated women and bondage. These "notably and largely coincide with how the remains" of two of the victims were discovered in the decades-long search. A hard drive recovered from Heuermann's basement hosted a Microsoft Word document called "HK2002-04," which appears to be the alleged serial killer's "planning document," according to court documents. The Word document was recovered on March 7, according to District Attorney Raymond Tierney. (Newsweek)

Gilgo serial killer Rex Heuermann charged with murders 5, and 6

Gilgo Serial killer Rex Heuermann charged with murders 5, and 6. Gilgo Beach murder suspect Rex Heuermann kept meticulous notes on his kills — including reminders for future murders like “hit harder” and to get more sleep to have more “play time,” prosecutors revealed Thursday — as he was charged with two more slayings. Heuermann, 60, who is accused of killing multiple women and leaving their remains scattered along Long Island’s Ocean Parkway, appeared in court Thursday morning and pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder charges for the 1993 death of Sandra Costilla and the 2003 killing of Jessica Taylor. He nodded along as Suffolk County prosecutors read aloud from an alleged “planning document” recovered from a computer in his Massapequa Park home that they say served as a “blueprint” for his twisted crimes and showed his “obvious” intention to kill the women. Two More victim's in Gilgo Beach serial killer case #JessicaTaylor #SandraCostilla #ValerieMack #rexheuermann Suspected Gilgo Beach serial killer Rex Heuermann has been charged with the brutal murders of two more women. Heuermann, 60, was back in court on Thursday morning where he was arraigned on murder charges in the 2003 dismemberment death of Jessica Taylor, 20, and the 1993 death of Sandra Costilla, 28. “We know that criminals in general...their modus operandi can change through the course of their life,” Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney said on Thursday. “There was no dismemberment with regard to the original four, but there is with regard to Ms Taylor.” The Manhattan architect has already been charged with the 2009 and 2010 murders of Megan Waterman, Melissa Barthelemy, Amber Lynn Costello and Maureen Brainard-Barnes — known as the “Gilgo Four.” He pleaded not guilty. The charges come days after Gilgo Beach Task Force investigators completed a second search of Heuermann’s home in Massapequa Park and a search of an area of Manorville where the partial remains of two women, Taylor and Valerie Mack, were found in the early 2000s. Mack is not part of Thursday’s new indictment, but Tierney said it’s “fair” to consider Heuermann a suspect in her murder. (Independent)
