Welcome to another episode of Qandid Qatar. Up to this point in our podcasts, we have talked about various things such as entrepreneurship, essential motivational skills and personal development in many fields by our inspiring guests. Today, we are hosting an episode with Dr. Amal Mohammed Al-Malki who’s the Founding Dean of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences at Hamad Bin Khalifa University in 2016.
She was also a Professor at Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar, from 2005 to 2016.
She's a Qatari mother, feminist, humanitarian, professor, an author and lastly a Dean.

Ep 7: Female Entrepreneurship in Qatar ft Maha Alfardan
In this episode of Qandid Qatar, we are joined by Maha AlFardan, the co-owner of the café/restaurant Flat 77. She provides background about her life as a working female in Qatar and how the process was like behind the initiative. AlFardan elaborates on the story behind the opening of Flat 77 with her older sister and the challenges they faced along the way. AlFardan gave interesting insight about the intricate details with the interior that was put into the cafe to mimic her London apartment and as she puts ‘it is home away from home.’

Ep 6: Debate Star ft. Mubarrat Wassey
Our latest episode of the Qandid Qatar podcast features Mubarrat Wassey, an international debate champion and coach at Qatar Debate. Mubarrat is a three-time Asian Champion and Best Speaker. He led the only Asian team to win the Australasian Championship in its 43-year history. He was also the first and the only ESL speaker to be crowned the best speaker at the Cambridge Intervarsity championship. As a judge, Mubarrat was the Deputy Chief Adjudicator at the Asians Universities Debating Championship and Asians BP Universities Debating Championship. He was also the Chief Adjudicator at the Australasian Championships 2019 in Bali and will be the Deputy Chief Adjudicator for WUDC 2021 in Korea. In this episode, Mubarrat talks about his story of how he got into debating and its impact on him. He reflects on how debate changes people’s lives for the better by sharing a range of stories of how people have developed through the activity by running for elections in their home country or realizing their biases.

Our special episode for Qandid Qatar features Katrin Scholz-Barth, the president of SustainableQATAR. An environmental engineer by trade, Katrin is also a bricklayer, a competitive swimmer, and a successful businesswoman and runs her own environmental consulting company and has worked with FIFA 2022 World Cup to make it carbon neutral. She reflects on her earlier childhood of growing up in East Germany which exposed her to numerous pollutants and influenced her decision to study environmental engineering. During this episode, she discusses the interdisciplinary nature of climate change, the importance of individual action in fighting climate change, and the benefits a sustainable lifestyle has on all aspects of our life.

Ep 4: Entrepreneurship and Innovation in Qatar ft. CEO of Snoonu (Hamad AlHajri)
In this episode, the CEO of snoonu, Hamad M Al Hajri, talks about his journey through life - from being an Automation Engineer in Qatar Petroleum, promoted into being a Project Manager, then he joined a corporate for marketing, then joined Barzan Holdings as the Vice president for Innovation and Business Development, and lastly, he joined the Ministry of Finance as the Director of Economic Competitiveness. Even though his career is busy, this did not deter him away from his education and his entrepreneurship. He completed his master's in HEC Paris in Qatar, and his project, the one that got picked as the best project, is Snoonu! This project came to life and currently he is the Co-Founder and the CEO of this innovative delivery app that offers online shopping, food delivery, and groceries too. Although it may seem as if it was smooth sailing for Mr. Hamad, there were a lot of challenges throughout his journey, but he is always holding his values close to him. Do not miss on gaining knowledge from this extraordinary figure!
