Tamil Nadu performed better than last year with 57.44% of the candidates who appeared for the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test 2020 qualifying in the exam. However, in absolute numbers it is lower than last year, when 59,785 candidates of the 1,23,078 students who appeared for NEET qualified.  The number of candidates who registered for the Tamil version of the test this year was higher. Last year, 1,071 candidates had registered whereas     this year, 17,101 candidates had opted for it. This year though 1,21,617 candidates had registered, only 99,610 took the test. As many as 57,215 candidates have qualified.

Vijay Sethupathi's Muttiah Muralidaran's biopic titled 800 was announced on Tuesday (October 13) with a motion poster. 24 hours later, the hashtag #ShameOnVijaySethupathi has been trending since morning. After the film's announcement, several netizens are not happy with Vijay Sethupathi playing the Sri Lankan cricketer on screen as he hails from the country that oppressed Tamils.

A day after receiving severe backlash on social media for an advertisement featuring a Hindu-Muslim marriage, Tata Group’s Tanishq Jewellery has pulled down the controversial advertisement from its YouTube page.

In an official statement, the Tanishq spokesperson said, “We are deeply saddened with the inadvertent stirring of emotions and withdraw this film keeping in mind the hurt sentiments and well being of our employees, partners and store staff.”

Khusboo joined the DMK on 14 May 2010. She was welcomed by DMK Leader Karunanidhi at the party headquarters in Chennai. Khushbu quit DMK on 16 June 2014. Khushbu joined the Indian National Congress on 26 November 2014 after meeting with then Congress President Mrs. Sonia Gandhi, and then Vice-President Mr. Rahul Gandhi. She was the National Spokesperson of the INC. She resigned from Congress on 12 October 2020. In October 2020, Khushboo quit the Indian National Congress and joined the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party. The move is considered significant ahead of the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections in 2021.

Congress national spokesperson Kushboo Sundar on Monday tendered her resignation from the party. She is set to join the BJP later in the day.

Following this, Pranav Jha, AICC secretary in-charge of Communications announced the dropping of Ms. Kushboo as spokesperson of the party with immediate effect.

“Kushboo Sundar is hereby dropped as AICC spokesperson with immediate effect,” said a statement from AICC secretary in-charge of communications Pranav Jha.

The Mumbai Police had on Friday arrested Vishal Ved Bhandari after he, as per a report, “revealed that he induced household members where BARC barometers are installed to watch Republic TV for a specific time every day for monetary consideration to increase the viewership of the said channel which resulted into TRP manipulation..”  When these households were interrogated by the Mumbai Police, they said that the accused Vishal had been paying them money on a monthly basis to watch Republic TV, sources said. The Mumbai Police has also recovered messages exchanged between these households regarding payments, sources said.  A witness in the TRP scam story has claimed that she was approached by a person in January 2019 who told her that he would be placing a barometer in her house to calculate TRP.
