Ep. 2 - Oops... We Did It Again.
Wow, episode 2 already. Time flies when you’re doing nothing all year, amiright?
Today we’re kicking things off with a new weekly segment called “what sucks today” where we complain about things.
Next, we’re bringing you three news stories: the Portland protest, all things Kanye, and finally #freebritney.
The goal Julianne and I had in mind when creating this podcast was to keep you informed and help you get to the bottom of why you should care about what’s going on in our world. With the Portland protest in particular, we talk about how what’s happening there is a huge infringement of constitutional rights, and how that may begin happening in other cities across the US. Sources for this story: CNN, USA Today, The Guardian, New York Times.
Here comes Kanye. His goal of getting on the presidential ballot is causing some uproar, especially surrounding Harriet Tubman and his daughter, North. This does go beyond politics into the issue of mental health, and how this manic episode he seems to be experiencing could actually affect our country for the next four years. Story sources: Harriet Tubman comment, comments about North, Twitter rantings, his thought on Trump.
We’re also covering the #freebritney moment, and how this craziness is happening not only to her, but to people all over the country, especially senior citizens. She had a court hearing yesterday, and has another one in august where we are hoping to get more answers. Most embarrassingly, here is the video I thought was taken down, turns out I’m not very good at clicking on things. Other sources: Free Britney, video from her makeup artist, The Guardians documentary. -
Ep. 1 - A Newsworthy Intro
In this week’s episode, we introduce ourselves, Julianne and Rachel, and talk about two interesting news stories.
We met and became best friends in 2014 at the University of Utah, and have remained inseparable ever since. Even when Julianne moved across the country for a year, things never changed. Both of us have a deep love for news, media, and all things pop culture paired with a love of complaining about everything. While looking for ways to become more involved in news and media, as well as finding a better to keep people informed in a funny, relatable way, the concept for Newsworthy was born.
We talk about two news stories this week, the tragic passing Naya Rivera and the Twitter hack of famous accounts. Julianne is mad that she is not cool enough to have her twitter hacked, and we speculate whether or not the cast of Glee is cursed.
We also figured out what our email, Instagram, and website are. A miracle.
