A new chapter is about to be written in Albany’s centuries-long history with the Dutch. The king and queen of the Netherlands are coming to the Capital Region on June 12 to meet with the governor, local Dutch businesses leaders, and area young people. We speak with author and journalist Paul Grondahl. Grondahl has written extensively on the topic in books, for the Times Union, and since taking over as the head of the New York State Writers Institute.

WAMC and the New York League of Conservation Voters co-host a candidate forum with seven hopefuls running for the open 109th New York state Assembly district seat.

Newburgh Mayor Torrance Harvey recently spoke at the White House’s National Water Summit. The second-term Democrat spoke on a panel about the city’s efforts to identify and replace lead service lines throughout its water system. So far, Newburgh has allocated more than $1.6 million to create an inventory of lead service lines and begin the replacement process. The city is also still grappling with the fallout from the discovery of PFAS contamination in its water supply in 2016.

Special Agent Craig Tremaroli has been leading the FBI’s Albany division since November, taking over for Janeen DiGuiseppi. Tremaroli, a former police officer and detective, has worked for the FBI in Indianapolis, Kansas City and Washington, D.C. He’s spent the first six months as special agent in charge traveling the vast area covered by the Albany Field Office, which includes much of upstate New York and Vermont.

A new documentary focuses on the sprawling corruption within Venezuela’s government — and the way Nicolas Maduro has cracked down on coverage of it. “A Dangerous Assignment: Uncovering Corruption in Maduro’s Venezuela” is premiering on PBS’ Frontline series. It focuses on the work of reporter Roberto Deniz, who was forced to flee.
