They wanted to shift the focus away from "losing weight" and an obsession with being "small and skinny" to focus on building stronger and healthier bodies.
    Made were co-founded by Mike Fedewa (Assistant Professor of Exercise Science, University of Alabama), Mike Esco (Professor of Exercise Science, University of Alabama), and Ben Fedewa (PT, DPT, OCS, Regional Director for Alliance Physical Therapy Partners). Together, they have over 30 years of experience in the health and fitness fields as researchers and practitioners, and have over 100 peer-reviewed research studies related to exercise and body composition.     On this episode of the Alix Turoff Nutrition podcast, Alix sits down with Jamie McDermott MS, RD, a registered dietitian and nutritionist offering virtual nutrition counseling and wellness education to individuals, families and businesses nationwide.
    Over the last 15 years, Jamie helped thousands of women, men, and children achieve their health, weight, and nutrition related goals without compromising their lifestyles.  
    She has a degree in psychology plus extensive training in weight management, which allows her to provide evidence based nutrition with successful and compassionate behavioral change methods. It's this combination that sets her apart from other programs that prescribe the same meal plans and styles of eating for different people. We all have unique needs!  
     
    ​Her approach is individualized for each and every one of her clients - which means that she considers their personal history with weight and dieting, food preferences, schedule and lifestyle as they develop a customized plan together.  
    Since 2005, she has been fortunate enough to gain professional experience in clinical, research, educational, and business settings. She has worked for the University of Arkansas Razorbacks, ESPN Headquarters, hospital outpatient clinics, and taught at the collegiate level.  In addition to her private practice, she currently provides virtual nutrition counseling services to Teladoc, Inc. and Foodsmart, Inc. 
    Her days are busy and full!  She’s a wife and mom to two amazing boys and feels lucky to be able to call Northwest Arkansas her home.  She has a real life, no nonsense approach that resonates with others; in her private practice she strives to create a trusted atmosphere of knowledge and empowerment for each one of her clients. 
    In her spare time, you can find Jamie doing yoga, hiking with her family, cooking (of course!), reading, working on projects in their older home, or supporting their newest venture, dog sitting for local pups!

    On this episode of the Alix Turoff Nutrition podcast, Alix sits down with Brittany who is a Registered Dietitian and a Board Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics practicing in the Dallas, TX area.
    She has several years of experience in collegiate athletics and has also worked with military, youth, and high-school level athletes. Her work with youth athletes specifically opened her eyes to how early in our lives we are exposed to diet culture and the concept that some foods are "good" while others are "bad." This is when Brittany first became passionate about helping athletes improve their relationships with food, not just their performance!
     
    Brittany created Fueled & Well after taking a good look around the nutrition space and realizing that very few dietitians have tried to bring the principles of mindful eating and sports nutrition together. Athletes and active individuals have unique nutrition needs and, as such, require a different approach than the general population when it comes to nutrition and developing a healthy relationship with food. Brittany loves supporting athletes and active individuals on their journey to leaving the diet mentality, tracking, and food stress behind.

    Cassie Steinberg MS, RD, CPT | Nutrition in Bariatrics

    On this episode of the Alix Turoff Nutrition podcast, Alix sits down with Cassie Steinberg, MS, RD, CPT. Cassie is a registered dietitian and certified personal trainer. She completed both her undergraduate and masters degree in clinical nutrition from NYU, graduating in 2017 and 2019 . During her undergraduate years, Cassie served as the team captain and starting goalkeeper for the NYU Women's Soccer team. Once her soccer career ended, she became a NASM certified personal trainer and taught group fitness classes in NYC while completing her dietetic internship and masters degree. Since becoming a registered dietitian, Cassie has worked in various settings including private practice, corporate wellness, and her current position as a bariatric dietitian. Her mission is to help people strive for better health through healing relationships with food and body and understanding how to move and sweat mindfully.
