Mission and animals being abandoned Desperate farmers whose properties were flooded tried to move their animals by boat, but some had to be abandoned. Even some of those who were ferried out of barns are in poor condition, and euthanasians will take place in the coming days. “hundreds” of farms have been affected provincewide by the floodwaters, many in the Fraser Valley.

The mayor said hundreds of farmers refused to evacuate the Sumas Prairie, despite an evacuation order, because they didn’t want to leave their animals behind. More than 180 people had to be rescued from the area overnight after floodwaters rose quickly. The B.C. Milk Marketing Board has advised dairy farmers in areas like Abbotsford, Chilliwack and the B.C. Interior to dump any milk into manure piles because mudslides and road washouts have made it impossible to deliver anywhere.

Oatly’s New Fashion Line – Swedish brand Oatly—known best for its vegan oat milk—is taking a step into the sustainable fashion world! With the launch of their first line of upcycled denim jackets, these one-of-a-kind vintage jackets are each hand painted by 10 female artists with messages that reference back to Oatly’s bold Post-Milk Generation campaign.  The range of jackets include the slogans “eat less animals” and “choose plants.”

Oatly’s limited-edition jackets are part of the brand ReRuns clothing experiment designed to tackle waste. The initiative also includes upcycled t-shirts (made in partnership with second-hand clothing brand Goodfair) and printed with Oatly’s popular phrases such as “wow, no cow”. Unlike most buying experiences, customers can only choose their size and message when buying these shirts. The T-shirts range in price from $14 to $24.

Online Auctions To Support This Fall

Animal Defense & Anti-Vivisection (ADAV) Auction Every year, millions of animals experience excruciating pain and die in the name of research that does not reliably predict human outcomes. Live animals are used for burn research, psychological and physical pain research, given cancer, blinded, subjected to broken bones or strokes, swim tests in icy water, forced to inhale smoke, and more. All when alternative ways of research exist and it has been shown time and time again that, in research, animal models produce misleading results. Help Support the ADAV by participating in their auction, Click Here to check out their auction page.

Vancouver Humane Society is holding their first ever online silent auction this week with more than 60 items available to bid on, all generously donated by local businesses. The auction will run from October 20-26, so be sure to check it out as soon as possible!
