    • Self-Improvement

With over 13 years of expertise in mental health treatment, Eric Fisher brings a unique perspective to counseling through his mastery of martial arts. He runs Recovery Arts Counselling in Calgary, Alberta, where he employs martial arts philosophies to aid recovery in individuals, couples, and families. In this insightful interview, Eric discusses how martial arts enhances mindfulness and self-regulation and introduces his upcoming book, "The Martial Art of Recovery," which uses martial arts as a metaphor for battling addiction and achieving mental wellness. His innovative approach to therapy integrates these ancient practices to foster self-awareness, balance, and respect, proving that the principles of martial arts can be transformative in personal growth and recovery.
Eric is a certified counsellor based in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. He has over 13 years of experience working in outpatient and inpatient settings in the US and Canada. Eric is a master practitioner of Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) and is also trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), both of which are evidence-based treatments for trauma. He works as a professional consultant for Harmonized Health, a local organization that aims to provide an integrated treatment approach for individuals struggling with mental health and addiction challenges. Eric's private practice, Recovery Arts Counselling, serves individuals, couples, and families locally and remotely. He also works as an associate for local clinics in the surrounding area. In the past, Eric has supervised master's-level graduate students and counsellors early in their careers. Additionally, Eric has a black belt in two martial arts styles: American Kenpo and Wadō-ryū.
His first book, The Martial Art of Recovery: How to Subdue Addiction & Achieve Mental Wellness, is set to be released in May 2024.
