Welcome to Beyond the Weight with Henny & Sandy! We're looking forward to talking about health and wellness as well as our journeys with food, activity, and mindset shifts.
Beyond the Weight with Henny & Sandy Episode 78: Food Obsessed
Join us as we chat about Sandy’s latest book obsession: Eating on the Wild Side. We discuss vegetables we love, the ways we can make sure we are getting the vitamins we need, and what exactly plant-based eating means to us. Henny tells us a bit about an exercise in empathy in which she took part this week, and we get to talking about the privileges we have in Canadian society. We finish the episode with a little gratitude exercise: three things in general, two specific things, and one thing related to WW. What are you most grateful for in this moment?
Beyond the Weight with Henny & Sandy Episode 77: Confession Time
Join us this week as we are heading in the final stretch of 2020. After chatting at length about our television habits, we finally get to talking about health and wellness. Sandy came ready to chat this week and, much to her surprise, she gets Henny to spill all her deepest darkest COVID closet-eating secrets. It’s really too bad that you can’t see Sandy do her best Kramer-from-Seinfeld impression, but we are sure you will chuckle to yourself if you try to imagine it!
Beyond the Weight with Henny & Sandy Episode 76: Skins & Stereotypes
Join us this week as we chat about the stereotypes and assumptions society has taught us to hold about people who carry extra weight (even when we carry that extra weight ourselves). We used Jasmin Singer’s book Always Too Much and Never Enough as a starting point for this important conversation. On a much more shallow note, Henny gives a full (raving) review of @crumbunsbakeshop Butter Tart Piewich and her new @skinnytaste Meal Prep cookbook. Finally, we talk skins - fruit skins, that is. Do you eat them? Like . . . even the skin of a kiwi?
Beyond the Weight with Henny & Sandy Episode 75: Kitchen Essentials
Join us this week as we chat about what we each find the easiest and the hardest part of the WW journey to be. It may be surprising to know that we did not pick the same things! Sandy has officially begun her Culinary Nutrition course and has been learning all about how to set up your kitchen for success, so we talk about what the absolute essentials are when it comes to appliances and utensils. We also gush over our love of living in pyjamas . . . anyone else with us on that one?!
Beyond the Weight with Henny & Sandy Episode 74: Cheat Day, Anyone?!
Join us this week as we chat about how dangerous deprivation can be when it comes to building a healthy lifestyle and how detrimental the idea of a “cheat day” is to having a positive mindset and developing habits that encourage moderation. Henny apologizes for the podcast editing mishap that occurred in last week’s episode, and Sandy talks about a new memoir she’s reading: Jasmin Singer’s Always Too Much and Never Enough. Finally, we chuckle about how soon we start thinking about what we’re going to eat for our next meal (Hint: It’s probably WAY too soon)! Do you have foods that you truly think you “can’t” have?
Beyond the Weight with Henny & Sandy Episode 73: You Just Have to Own It!
Join us this week as we chat at some length about Brian Tracy’s book about procrastination and time management, Eat That Frog! (Yes, Henny has actually read it finally!) We also discuss Henny’s first experience with Mason Jar Salads and Sandy’s new podcast find: Smart Less with Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes, and Will Arnett. Truly, if you’re looking for a laugh, you need to check it out (after you’ve listened to us, obviously). Finally we start thinking a bit about our identities. How does who we are affect the things we do? How does what we do affect the people we are?
