Can I tell you a secret?

This podcast delves into a relatively high-profile case of cyberstalking in the UK; but it does so in a manner that doesn’t just vilify the culprit. It explores some of the circumstances that may have contributed to the events, and addresses some of the nuances around culpability. It also asks questions about how this can be prevented (both primary actions and repeat offences.) It can be difficult to listen to at times. Some of the interviews made me want to yell back at the interviewee to tell them why I think their perspective is wrong, but it’s important to be exposed to these different perspectives. I think that this should be part of a societal conversation about how we are going to manage issues like this, as they are likely to get worse as social media becomes more entrenched and deep-fakes become more difficult to detect.

Really sympathetic writing and narration of a story that has hidden moral dilemmas and more depth than a listener expects at the outset. I hope the Guardian makes more podcasts.
