Cancel Culture. It has been described as “a mechanism where a chorus of voices, amplified on social media, tries to silence a point of view that they find offensive by trying to damage or destroy the reputation or career of the person who has given offence. The goal is aggressively silence a person with whom you disagree in the hopes of casting them never again be taken seriously as a writer, editor, speaker, activist, intellectual, or in the extreme, an employee. In Canada cancel culture has damaged the careers of media personalities such as iconic sports commentator Don Cherry, CBC journalist Wendy Mesley, Former Leader of the Official Opposition in Parliament, the Hon. Stockwell Day and the list goes on. More recently high profile commentators such as the popular radio show host Danielle Smith from Alberta, have decided to beat cancel culture to it and cancel first by deleting their personal social media accounts & resign from mainstream media platforms. My guest on this show, esteemed journalist Barbara Kay, herself was moving towards resigning as a columnist with the National Post because of the creeping barrage of political correctness she was observing in the profession. In this interview we discuss the issue of cancel culture with her.___________________________________________________Faytene.tv is a listener supported program.
