John Beilein has parted ways with the Cleveland Cavaliers, according to a report late Tuesday night from ESPN. Obviously Beilein becomes the No. 1 coaching target in college, but what are the chances he wants to return to choops? Gary Parrish and Matt Norlander open with their theories on that, then get to some of the biggest items from Tuesday night: Creighton beating Marquette (21:00), Baylor setting a Big 12 record (29:00) along with some talk of Kansas, and some quick love to Dayton and Maryland. The guys wrap with the listener mailbag (33:00), which includes questions about NC State, UNC and college hoops TV scheduling.

02/16: The Maryland Terrapins have their best team since winning the 2001-02 national championship

We are less than four weeks away from Selection Sunday. It’s going to be here before you know it, so this episode looks both at where we are now and where things could stand in a month. Parrish and Norlander open with an extended discussion on Maryland, Michigan State, the Big Ten and Anthony Cowan being a former D-III recruit. From there, well, why does it seem like Baylor (24:15) is still not being discussed as a national title frontrunner? The Bears destroyed another ranked team over the weekend. And then the guys pick out teams with the most interesting and unpredictable bubble resumes (41:00) and forthcoming schedules. There are no shortage of candidates. The episode wraps with a couple of podcast reviews (53:30), including a negative. WHAT?!

02/12: Penn State is red hot and chasing the best season in school history; listener mailbag!

The Nittany Lions are 19-5, second in the Big Ten and on track for a No. 4 seed. Yes, the pod opens with Pat Chambers' guys after their seventh straight win came Tuesday night. There is some Big Ten chatter and NCAA Tournament forecasting mixed in (10:00) before an examination of the top freshmen in college hoops (20:00) and how that lack of talent corresponds to many teams slipping or underachieving this season. The ep wraps with the Wednesday mailbag (31:00) and leads with a Trivia Time and Markus Howard chatter.

02/09: The Dean Dome Double Buzzer-Beater; Bob Knight returns to Indiana; takeaways from Saturday's bracket reveal

Duke's 98-96 overtime win at North Carolina on Saturday night was one of the wildest conclusions to one of the most memorable games of this season and obviously in the 100-year history of that rivalry. We can start nowhere but there -- but hey, we hope you love that intro Norlander put together. After a lot of Duke-UNC talk, Parrish and Norlander get to Bob Knight's ballyhooed return to Indiana (29:30) and then discuss two of the four best teams in the sport (48:00), San Diego State and Gonzaga, throttling yet again. The pod closes out with thoughts on the top 16 reveal from Saturday on CBS (59:00).

02/07: Why John Calipari and Gary Parrish are both connected to job openings with the New York Knicks

The New York Knicks hiring two men closely associated with John Calipari has inevitably brought back discussion over whether this means Cal could really -- for real this time -- leave Kentucky for the NBA. But the question most aren't asking is: what about Gary Parrish to the Knicks? The latest information is addressed at the top of the pod, then the guys get to Zavier Simpson's car troubles (17:00) and preview the weekend (33:30) by picking these games: LSU-Auburn; SHU-Nova; Duke-Carolina; Gonzaga-SMC; and Butler-Marquette.

Customer Reviews

Mike Pattison ,

Simply the best college basketball podcast

As a young sports journalist I look up to Gary and Matt. Their work, whether it be on TV, radio, the podcast or written online, is outstanding. They know their stuff inside and out and are able to present it to the audience in an entertaining yet super informative way. If you're a college basketball fan this podcast is a MUST listen. I really enjoy when they talk about their schedules or behind the scenes of what they do. As someone who is working to make it in the industry I love hearing about stories from the biz such as Gary's impatience when a radio show producer calls him too early. Or even when they talk about the long hours they have to work while balancing real life situations such as families, traveling or even dead legs/deer.

Shouts to you guys, 5 stars and please never stop doing this!

I’ve been listening to this podcast religiously for about 5 years now and it is insightful and hilarious. Question for the Mail Bag- how does a writer receive an AP Ballot and why doesn’t Norlander have one?

BensonRich ,

Love It!

Love the show and discussion about the major topics surrounding college basketball. Great insight with some colourful personality, where the character of the show hosts doesn’t detract from the content!
Question: does the committee take in to account when you play teams? With the transfer epidemic, or free agency, when you play someone is an important factor.

Zag Up!!
