#114: Community and Cooperation vs Competition and Comparison

#114: Community and Cooperation vs Competition and Comparison

In a world with social media, we can get caught in a cycle of competition with our peers.
Thinking that other people are copying us. That they’re offering the same products as us. That they’re encroaching on our lane.
    This prevents collaboration from happening.
Needing to be the best. Fear of someone coming into our market. These are all scarcity feelings. The flare up of our emotions is not something to indulge in and act on. Call out your feelings, see if they’re rooted in competition and scarcity, and then see if you can lean into feelings of collaboration and abundance.
Recently, while recording an episode with Gay Hendricks (the author of the Big Leap - stay tuned for his episode) he said the number one killer of creativity is control. When we’re focusing on what other people are doing, we’re creating a container that’s controlled, instead of creating a container that can nourish our ideas and ourselves.
As entrepreneurs, the backbone of our business is creating something out of nothing.
If we’re worried about what other people are doing, and that they’re competing with us and us them, all of those things are going to flare up the controlling part of us. When we think power is limited to those at the top, we will try to control ourselves to play the game the way we think we have to play it. This control will kill creativity.
When we look at creation from a collaborative mindset, we’re so much richer for it. Nothing is created in a silo. The best things in our lives have been influenced by others.
Whether we’re crippled by fear or driven to create something copy-cat, neither option is going to be helpful.
Let’s all try to create more collaboration and community in our lives vs comparison and competition.
Creativity is where we come alive, it’s what fuels us and our businesses. It’s going to look different for all of us, and that is why we need community and collaboration; we all bring something unique to the table.
Remember, what if bravery is giving something your absolute all without any guarantee that it will work out? Don’t give into the fear of comparison and competition.
It’s a conscious choice to lean into collaboration over competition. But the more you do it, the easier it becomes.

    On this episode, I cover:
Why control is the enemy of creativity How to lean into collaboration over competition Why bravery helps you create less boring content
Remember that you’re doing better than you think.
    Together we’ve got this.
    I believe in you.

#113: When Working on Your 'Mindset' is Actually Holding You Back

#113: When Working on Your 'Mindset' is Actually Holding You Back

Mindset is a fundamental aspect of success and living a fulfilling, joyous life.
But, like all good things, too much of it might do more harm than good.
Not all limiting beliefs are meant to be dispelled. They exist because we are human, and they are simply a part of us. If you are brave enough to pursue your wildest dreams, you will be faced with a bag of insecurities.
Every day I face my own bag of insecurities, so don’t worry you’re not alone in that.
We tend to want to eliminate all of our limiting beliefs, but sometimes it’s enough to simply embrace them. Wanting them to be gone can actually cause us to fall into a shame cycle when we become frustrated at ourselves for still having them.
We will have moments where we feel we’ve overcome a limiting belief. We don’t experience it anymore. And then we move towards new goals and those feelings will hit us all over again, just in a different way. It’s hard enough to be feeling resistance, fear, and insecurities, but now you’re also spiraling in shame for having this limiting belief that you thought you got rid of come back.
This is a trap we get into when we want to banish our biggest limiting beliefs.
Instead, what if we embrace the idea that we will have to face them when we do something worthwhile, and our comfort comes from knowing we have the tools to move forward anyway.
Compassion is one of the best strategies you can use to grow your business.
Why? Because all the time you spend shaming yourself, you can use it towards actually growing your business.
Limiting beliefs are a routine checkpoint that you will go through many times while on the journey of accomplishing your dreams. Surrender to it being a part of your journey, as opposed to resisting and judging yourself for not eliminating every single limiting belief forever.
    On this episode, I cover:
How working on your mindset ‘while on the sidelines instead of getting into the game’ can be a trap How judging ourselves for feeling a limiting belief can can make it worse  Why we give up when we feel resistance from our mind/thoughts How to become truly unstoppable and have real confidence - even when we still have limiting beliefs
Remember that you’re doing better than you think.
    Together we’ve got this.
    I believe in you.

#112: Fulfillment or money? You can have both and here's why...

#112: Fulfillment or money? You can have both and here's why...

Q: How do people harness or fail to harness their emotional intelligence in making business-related decisions?
We’ve seen people build businesses in alignment with themselves vs. people who have built businesses based on what they think success looks like.
We feel that there can be a crossroad of needing to make money for bills vs. doing what lights us up. This kind of thinking in and of itself is a trap. There doesn’t have to be “one or the other”, although sometimes society likes to trick us into believing that’s true.
We are told that there is only One Path that will lead us to success, money, and fame.
Many of us will sell our souls to follow what “works” because we crave the assumed security that comes with success. We think following this path will give us a sturdy foundation and we’ll never have to worry about money, which will lead us to a happy, safe, and secure life.
This is not about not making money… this is about us thinking that having a certain amount of money will eliminate all of our worries and problems and therefore it’s the priority. It’s about knowing that no amount of money will ever truly make us feel whole.
Money can only offer us so much, so we need to prioritize HOW we are making money. If we are making it in a way that lights us up, we are more able to feel whole.
Susan Piver talks about how our society values three things and that while these three things are valuable, they aren’t going to guarantee our safety, security and happiness. Those three things are:
    Excellent commerce/business
    Profound ideas
    Skillful leadership
This is our dogma in the entrepreneurial world, that those three things above all other things are to be valued. It’s a pedestal that we’ve created and ultimately all want to get on because then we will be safe from struggle. If we achieve those three things, we are safe.
With covid, we are seeing a lot of wealthy, successful people who are struggling mentally and emotionally and lots of people are lacking empathy for them because of the fallacy that having money guarantees happiness.
Going back to your choice of which path to take, if the path towards endless amounts of money (at the expense of our fulfillment) won’t fix all of our problems, then why is it so high on our pedestal?
When choosing the so-called guaranteed business model, understand that there is actually no guarantee by taking that path. So if you’re assuming risk, why not lean into the path that fuels us and makes us come alive.
We need more people who are empowered and radiating joy. Not more people who are doing things to pay their bills.
You can have both: alignment and money. Lean into that. If you aren’t sure how to do that, hit reply and let’s chat. I happen to be really good at helping people do both, and I want that for you too.
Real courage is giving our business everything you’ve got despite any guarantee of achieving a certain outcome.
    I believe in you!
