Today on the WannaBes Mobcast we are going to be talking about a hidden gem of a product called the Clever Lever from Midwest Mountain Engineering and we are bringing on none other than the engineer and designer of this great product, Steve Pohl. We got to learn about how Steve got the idea for the Clever Lever which of course had its roots in a broken bike story. Over the course of the last fourteen years, the Clever Lever has grown to cover a wide range of European bikes like KTM, Husqvarna, GasGas, Sherco, Beta, Husaberg, TM, and a few others. If you don't already know, the Clever Lever is a clutch lever that reduces the amount of force required to pull in the clutch lever by fifty percent thereby reducing fatigue and arm pump. This allows you to ride harder for longer and get the most out of your dirt bike. The Clever Lever also allows you to take advantage of the full length of the clutch pull stroke.

This means that you have to fully pull the clutch lever in to take the clutch plates from fully engaged to fully disengaged. This effectively increases the clutch contact patch throughout the length of the clutch pull which allows you to modulate the clutch better and apply the right about of power to the ground without losing traction. What is nice about the force reduction is that you only need to use one finger in order to modulate the clutch which means that you can have a shorter lever and more fingers wrapped around the handlebars for better control. If you are picky about the ergonomics and the look and feel of your controls, Midwest Mountain Engineering also sells a matching brake lever as well. One important thing that we talk about is how to install and tune the Clever Lever so that you are getting the most out of this great product.

As a product that lets you finely tune the adjustment, it is important to set the clutch lever up right. Otherwise, you may find that your clutch plates either won't fully engage or disengage. Included in your purchase are a very detailed set of installation instructions and Steves stresses how important it is to follow those instructions fully so that you don't end up frying a clutch. The best part is that Steve is there to help if you can't quite figure out how it works and he backs up the Clever Lever with a satisfaction guarantee. What we love about the Clever Lever is that it's not only a great product but it is as grassroots as you can get. Steve saw a solution to a problem and he solved it. That shows in the fact that Midwest Mountain Engineering has grown by word of mount from its inception and continues to grow on the basis of a great product.
