Exploring The Back Road: Jeep Life

Welcome to the Connected To The Land podcast, sponsored by Peavey Mart

In this episode, our host Ian Sherwood has a chat with Aldo and Darsh, who moved to Canada from India in 2017. After living and working in Toronto for over 2 years, they realized that they didn’t know a lot about the country they called home. So they gathered their savings, quit their jobs and started exploring Canada in their Jeep Wrangler JL. Their journey began February of 2020, but was cut short by the pandemic in April (only 2 months into their trip). With no sign of travel restrictions being lifted, they put the Jeep into park and shifted their sense of adventure to building an off-the-grid cabin in Nova Scotia. Several months, lots of tough decisions, blood, sweat and tears later, their off-grid cabin by the lake was complete. They now sneak off on weekend adventures, exploring the backroads of Nova Scotia. They share their experiences on PROJECT JEEPLIFE (Instagram, YouTube & Facebook) and aim to continue living a life filled with Travel-Overlanding-Off-Grid Living and anything else life throws at them.

    Hummingbirds: Jewel Of The North

Welcome to the Connected To The Land podcast, sponsored by Peavey Mart

On this episode, Ian Sherwood chats with Country grown, native Albertan Michael Wiens, who is known for his passion for birding and overall intrigue with nature. With his wife’s green thumb he learned the art of gardening and combined it with hummingbirding to form a lifelong passion. He has marveled in the rewards of growing their own hummingbird garden and the extensive research of the Ruby-throated hummingbird, and applied it to a well thought out book on attracting these extraordinary little creatures to their country get away.

RV living: Tales From The Open Road

Welcome to the Connected To The Land podcast, sponsored by Peavey Mart

In this episode, host Ian Sherwood has a chat with The Hinters, whose full-time RVing adventure began in May 2015. They listed their place for sale and started selling their belongings and by October of that year, they hit the road, exploring most of Western Canada, until COVID forced them to press pause on their nomadic lifestyle.
They loaded their lives into their 2006 30-foot Carriage fifth wheel and headed out for the great outdoors where they found a level of adventure, tranquility and  community that has largely been lost to the fast-paced hectic world we all  live in.
The Hinters share their RV lifestyle on their YouTube channel: RV Life Canadian Style.

Self Sustenance: Lovin Off The Land

Welcome to the Connected To The Land podcast, sponsored by Peavey Mart.

In this episode, Ian talks to Chris Hall and Stef Lowey from Lovin Off The Land, who have challenged themselves to only eat what they Catch, Grow, Harvest or Raise for an entire YEAR! This includes everything right down to the basics, such as sugar, salt and flour.

Their journey began when they lost their jobs at the Poet’s Cove Resort due to the pandemic. They moved to Hall’s family cabin and half acre farm on Pender Island, British Columbia, whee they now raise pigs, chickens, turkeys and bees, plus they maintain a year-long garden and fish and forage for crabs, seaweed and halibut from the ocean, right at their doorstep. They are currently about 7 months through their journey, with their challenge scheduled to end on Aug 3, 2021. They have been documenting their journey on the Connected To The Land website.
