This is a podcast with Chicago Comedian Drew Loryn who sits down with guests who have been in a mental health facility aka a "psych ward."
Mental Illness' such as depression, anxiety, OCD, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, eating disorders, etc are discussed. Other topics include: the physical impact of anxiety, what depression feels like, how mental illness can impact relationships and family, coping with mental illness, and more. Drew Loryn sits down with two Chicago Comedians, Jessica Misra and Evan Hull. Drew, Jessica, and Evan in addition to being stand up comedians, we’re all former Division I divers in college. In the beginning, Evan and Jessica discuss their experiences of going to therapy and what led them to start. The common thread of the episode was discussing how the culture of Diving and the NCAA affected their bodies (physically & mentally), mindset, relationships, identity, and more.

Drew Loryn sits down with Chicago Comedian, Deanna Ortiz. Deanna talks about her experience in therapy in her late 20s and how her nutritionist has become her new found therapist. She discusses how body image issues and having an eating disorder has played a huge role in her life; and how these issues have helped her establish boundaries with people. Deanna dives deep into how to create boundaries with people who make unnecessary comments about her body. She has a podcast called “Crushes” (@crushespodcast) where her and her guests discuss their celebrity crushes and topics surrounding dating and relationships.

Drew Loryn sits down with her college friend, Josie McGarva. Josie talks about her experience living with Chron’s Disease since she was 13 and having upwards of 20 surgeries. She discusses how Chron’s impacted her mental health and the journey it took her to finally be open about living with this disease. Josie then went on to discuss how she is in Graduate School for Psychology and what it was like to work in a pediatric psychiatric unit. Drew Loryn sits down with one of her best friends from Jewish Summer Camp, Carly Spielberg. Carly discusses her experience of growing up with paranoia as a child and being put into therapy since she was 10 years old. She also talks about having OCD as a child and what is was like growing up with divorced parents and being put in the middle of them. Towards the end of the podcast Carly opens up about her brother passing away from a heroin overdose. She discusses how it impacted her, her family, and how she bonded with Drew over siblings battling heroin addiction.
