    2246 - Waiver Wire - June 2, 2024

    Fantasy Baseball Live – June 2, 2024 @ 11 am

Segments 1 and 2 – Review games of the weekend

    Additional Questions
1.Ryan Weathers with 11 strikeouts on Saturday. He’s pitching to just over a 3.00 ERA. Michael Lorenzen is not striking out many guys but is pitching ok.
a.These are the pitchers you must grab to make a difference. Thoughts?
2.Dany Jimenez with the close. Do you trust him enough to be the setup guy for Miller?
3.Chris Sale got pounded. Is it just a bad game?
a.Michael Andujar with a big game. I think he made your waiver wire.
4.Darvish and Musgrove both hit the IL. What do the Padres do to backfill these innings?
5.You called it with Romano. I’m assuming it’s Yimi time?
6.Albert Suarez keeps getting it done. Arsenal looks pretty good with a 95 MPH fastball and solid secondaries. He’s available in many leagues. Are you interested?
7.Yikes, John Means with another UCL elbow surgery. Just got back from the last one.

2245 - Are these players really first round talent?

2245 - Are these players really first round talent?

    Take 10 with Tim – May 31, 2024 @ 8 am

1.It’s official: Ronald Acuna is lost for the season. It’s his second knee surgery in three years, and I have to ask the question: Should we draft Acuna early in the first round when he has just not been able to stay healthy?
a.If you're one of the unfortunate ones with Acuna on your roster, who are a couple of players you might consider adding as a replacement?
b.React to these Dynasty League trades that occurred within 24 hours of his injury.
i.Aaron Judge and Torkelson for Acuna, Jung Hoo Lee, Nick Gonzalez, Alex Kiriloff
ii.Fernando Tatis Jr. and James Triantos for Acuna

    2.More Injuries
    a.Mets
i.Edwin Diaz was put on the IL with a right shoulder impingement. True or not, it doesn’t matter. Give me the breakdown of who gets saves in New York.
ii.Pete Alonso – Only has a bruised hand.
b.LaMonte Wade will miss time with a left hamstring strain.
i.While not a big name, pretty important guy in OBP Leagues. Do you have any thoughts on who might be a pickup here to replace modest power but high OBP?
c.Evan Carter hits the IL with a back strain.
i.Does he return to Texas when he’s healthy, or does he go to Triple-A?
d.Junior Caminero will miss 4 to 6 weeks with a Grade-2 left quad strain. See, the Rays were right. Why bring him up simply for him to get hurt and be on the IL? He might not be up until a September call-up (again)

3.Jorge Lopez made news when he threw his glove into the stands after another loss by the Mets and then told a reporter that the Mets were the worst team in baseball. He got designated for assignment.
a.Can’t speak the truth in New York I guess.
b.Will he have trouble getting work?

4.The much-maligned Angel Hernandez retired abruptly this week, and social media sites blew up. Fans and even players seemed thrilled. We will toss this around for a few minutes.

5.The cream is rising to the surface pretty early, as most of the top players in fantasy were high picks. We will look at the Top 15 guys and evaluate whether they are first-round quality or not. We will use the CBS player rater as our guide.

6.We will also do the same thing with pitchers…although Top 10. We will use the CBS player rater as our guide.

7.Should the Astros admit that their window is closed and start retooling, or should they still try to be contenders?

a.Based on your answer, give me a few things they should do.

8.One more question based on Thursday’s games.

9.Give me a hitter you will target for this weekend’s FAAB.

10.Give me a pitcher you will target for this weekend’s FAAB.

    Additional Notes:
1.Jackson Chourio had his 150th at-bat on Friday. It’s a win, but not a confident win. Are you disappointed in his performance, or is this what you thought coming into the season would happen?
a.Joey Wiemer gets demoted, and Oliver Dunn is back up. Any interest?
2.The Mets – WOW…on a brutal stretch. Diaz with another blown save. Lindor absolutely quitting on a pitch. He said he could pick up the spin and was hoping the pitcher would throw a ball. What???
    3.What happened to George Springer?
4.Wyatt Langford has started his rehab and should be back soon. Would/should the Rangers send Evan Carter down in a corresponding move? He’s not been good and is not going to get in better, hitting against lefties while on the bench.
5.Jordan Beck broke his hand and will be out for a while. That’s a bummer.
6.News flash – The Yankees are really good. They have the best record in the American League. And, Gerrit Cole is starting to ramp up

2242 - Are these performances real?

    Take 10 with Tim – May 24, 2024 @ 8 am

1.Real or Memorex – These players are all playing well and are outearning their draft slots. Is this a new level or is a correction coming?
a.David Fry (Cle, 67th catcher [Drafted in only 48 leagues out of 5000 in the NFBC], 6th ranked catcher) - .338 BA, .476 OBP, 5 HR, 32 RBI
    b.Connor Joe (Pit, 88, 11) - .277 BA, .345 OBP, 6 HR, 2 SB, 25 runs, 22 RBI
    c.Jordan Westburg (Bal, 32, 7) - .288 BA, .339 OBP, 7 HR, 5 SB, 24 runs, 29 RBI
    d.Maikel Garcia (KC, 20, 5) - .263 BA, .308, 5 HR, 11 SB, 28 runs, 32 RBI
    e.Jose Caballero (TB, 40, 11) - .257 BA, .315 OBP, 2 HR, 17 SB (8 CS), 21 runs, 14 RBI
    f.Brent Rooker (Oak, 73, 8) - .288 BA, .361 OBP, 11 HR, 2 SB, 23 runs, 32 RBI
    g.Jarren Duran (Bos, 35, 12) - .271 BA, .342 OBP, 2 HR, 11 SB, 30 runs, 20 RBI
    h.Jo Adell (LAA, 245, 15) - .242 BA, .311 OBP, 9 HR, 8 SB, 25 runs, 24 RBI
    i.Brenton Doyle (Col, 102, 16) - .274 BA, .335 OBP, 5 HR, 9 SB, 29 runs, 13 RBI
    j.Brandon Marsh (Phi, 89, 28) - .252 BA, .323 OBP, 6 HR, 8 SB, 16 runs, 23 RBI

2.We joked when Cal Quantrill got traded to the Rockies last November, but he’s getting the last laugh. His season looks a lot like his breakout season in 2022. He’s posting a 3.59 ERA, but not striking out a ton (about seven per nine) with three wins. He’s even pitching a sub 4.00 ERA in four starts at home.
a.Should I be excited about this or is this a mirage?
b.He should get traded at the deadline, but with the Rockies do it?

3.Josh Hader has settled down and has pitched much better of late. Should we look at him as a Top 3 closer again?

4.I actually liked Nick Gonzales entering this season and he made my target list for Draft and Hold Leagues. I’m sure people thought I was crazy, but he’s been ok. He looks like he’s turning back into the player that he was in his first two years of college – a contact hitter with doubles power and 10 to 12 home run pop. Your thoughts?

5.Is there any reason to expect Eloy Jimenez to play more than 100 games a year? He’s done 120 for two seasons, 55 and 84, and is hurt again. Do you just avoid rostering these injured-riddled players?

6.Xander Boegarts fractured his shoulder and hits the IL for a while. I’m assuming Arraez moves to second. Who gets his playing time?

7.Julio Rodriguez still hits the ball hard (92.6 MPH exit velo) and is still in the 98th percentile in speed, but he’s striking out 28% of the time and walking less than 6% of the time – both career worst. His quality of contact (squared-up balls) is in the bottom 20% of the league. How concerned should fantasy managers be?

    8.One question after today’s games…

9.What hitter are you targeting this weekend?

10.What pitcher are you targeting this weekend?

Everything and more

I have my go to for everything talk NHL and now I have Baseball 361°. Every teams report for prospects, etc. It’s really hard to find quality information and insight that’s hard hitting but done laid back. Rich and Tim are like those best buds for years who just love and enjoy something like baseball like kids again.

Hit and miss

Really enjoyed the podcast when I first started listening to it but it has changed a lot. Lots of rambling about nothing especially on Rich Wilson’s part. Tim McCloud is very insightful and knows what he’s talking about, if there was another host this podcast would be very good. I found if I fast forward most of the first segment it usually gets good but I don’t like fast forwarding for half an hour. I usually skip the last segment because no one really cares what you’re eating for dinner

Therapy

This is more than just a fantasy baseball podcast. It’s an escape. It’s a reminder every week that our lives are only a small microcosm of what is happening on planet earth. There is fun out there. Friendship exists. This podcast is like hanging out with your friends and shooting the breeze over the amazing game of fantasy baseball. I love it. Thanks Rich and Tim, you remind me every week to relax, have fun and not to take life so seriously. All the best.
