300 episodes

In 2007, The Football Ramble was born out of Luke Moore, Pete Donaldson, Marcus Speller and Jim Campbell’s passion for the most popular sport in the world—as well as a shared inability to take themselves too seriously. Since then, the boys have come a very long way: from a best-selling book to sold out live shows.

Now, with the return of football post-lockdown, the Football Ramble brings you daily episodes of equal parts insight and hilarity. All this and more, Monday through Saturday. Lend us your ears and we’ll keep you up to date with the latest stories from the Premier League and all around Europe, all with an eye for both the sublime and the ridiculous.

The Championship play-off final, Harry Kewell’s return, and developments north of the border

On today's show, we're looking ahead to one of the biggest games in English football as Brentford take on Fulham for a place in the Premier League. Will Aleksandar Mitrović play? How nervous is Marcus Speller? Listen to find out!

We also round up the opening weekend of the Scottish Premiership, as Celtic began their quest for a record tenth consecutive title. There’s even time for a glance at puzzling developments at Barcelona and Oldham Athletic respectively, as one has spent €650m on largely underwhelming transfers and the other has appointed Harry Kewell as their new manager.

Arsenal win a record FA Cup, Eddie Howe leaves Bournemouth, and the merits of the Filet-O-Fish

Jules, Vish and Jim are here to recount a fantastic FA Cup final that deserved to be played in a packed-out Wembley, as Arsenal overcame Chelsea. Jim’s delighted about Arsenal but cautious about Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s future after his remarkable goal. Meanwhile the Drip King™️ Héctor Bellerín’s been at it again.

Elsewhere we round up an underwhelming end to Juventus’ Serie A title parade, honour Eddie Howe after he departs from Bournemouth and marvel at this weekend’s dubious end to the Austrian second division.

The Blizzard: Liverpool 4-0 Barcelona, 2019

The Blizzard: Liverpool 4-0 Barcelona, 2019

We’re revisiting a modern classic on today’s episode of Greatest Games, in association with The Blizzard. To discuss a game that followed a fantastical narrative, we brought on an equally excellent storyteller – director of ‘Diego Maradona’, Asif Kapadia!

Asif chanced upon a ticket for this second-leg tie at Anfield (next to Michael Fassbender, no less), as Liverpool’s season was seemingly petering out. But Jurgen Klopp stood by his tactical beliefs and, after Divock Origi tapped home after just seven minutes, the inexorable tide began to turn. Then the corner was taken quickly–ORIGI!

The Bees buzz their way to Wembley, James Maddison signs a new deal at Leicester, and will fans be back in October?

Jules, Jim and Luke are here to talk you through last night's dramatic scenes as Brentford booked their tickets to Wembley in their final game at Griffin Park.

Elsewhere in the pod, there's James Maddison's excellent new contract but questionable choice in t-shirts, talk of fans coming back to games, and a cut price Joel Veltman arrives in Brighton.

The delicately balanced Newcastle takeover, Roy Keane’s softer side, and the Ehantharajah Fan Club

The delicately balanced Newcastle takeover, Roy Keane’s softer side, and the Ehantharajah Fan Club

As the proposed takeover of Newcastle United rolls on, fans are forced into difficult discussions about the club’s potential ownership and football’s wider issues. Jules, Pete and Vish are in the studio to wrestle with these competing feelings on today’s episode of the Football Ramble.

Elsewhere, Adam Lallana returns to the beach as he joins Brighton and Neil Warnock makes Middlesbrough his latest managerial home. We also try to work out which aspect of post-lockdown football we prefer: Mike Dean’s beard or Micah Richards and Roy Keane’s adorable bromance.

The best

Priority #1 every time I have a train, plane, bus or car ride: set up the latest Ramble. Every episode is a “lovely old job” 👏🏻

Conspiracy theories and Bitterness

Combustible mixture with little to no analysis on the Monday show, avoid.

The other shows vary as to quality.
Some are are decent listens.

Top tip, please dial down the bitterness.....

Thanks.

A must-listen

I’ve been tuning into these lads for many a year now, and although the show evolves, changes, and isn’t the same as when I first listened, it’s still what I listen to almost every single day. Like, Pete, Marcus and Jim are a part of my life, the muppets.
