I’ve left the Mormon church but, damn it, I just can’t seem to leave the church alone. Whether you’re navigating leaving a high-demand religion too or simply find yourself fascinated by religion (and where it can go off the rails), pull up a camp chair. I share my post-Mormon perspective on the quirkiness of church culture and the compelling journey of faith deconstruction. I’ll be reading and reacting to crazy religion story submissions, doing long-form interviews and deep diving into church-related culture and current events. CATHOLIC SCHOOL DROPOUT
Evelyn fell DEEP into fundamental Catholicism as a struggling teen, to the point of only wearing skirts (even to go swimming). But once she started at Franciscan University, the fundamentalism became too much. Her journey includes discovering her sexuality, being told her panic attacks might be demonic and ultimately being intimidated into withdrawing from Franciscan. Let me tell ya, fundamental Catholicism might just give Mormonism a run for its money.

When Tanner came out as gay and then left the Mormon church, I was still hanging on to my progressive Mormon ways. Because of these differences, we broke up. I can’t emphasis enough just how refreshing this content is. Deconstructing religion can be so confusing and difficult and finding community and relatability can feel impossible. Hailey manages to maintain a beautiful balance of light hearted and somber material that one can always relate to.
There’s spaces for intense doctrinal debate or poke a bit of fun but most days I’m happy to sit and “campfire chat.” 🩵

I’m a never Mormon, and I am endlessly fascinated by Mormon culture. This podcast is incredible and so well spoken. I love all the different perspectives!
