A husband and wife embark on a journey of catharsis and reflection as they read an old diary chronicling the struggles of an undiagnosed autistic teenager growing up with reality TV's Duggar family and fundamentalist Christianity. Through laughter and tears, they deconstruct the past in an entertaining and unvarnished examination of a unique upbringing.
S01 Episode 05: Run With the Wolves
In our final episode of the season, we discuss our love story, the slow process of moving on, discovering autism, and what it means to run with the wolves.
S01 Episode 04: Being Human
In part one of our final session, we laugh and cry as we discuss burning passions, the weight of doubt, and what it means to fully embrace our humanity.
S01 Episode 03: Shame & Betrayal
In a very personal episode, we unpack the impact of shame and self-punishment, recall how a friendship ended in betrayed trust, and discuss why the traumatic profiteering behind popular reality shows needs to end.
S01 Episode 02: The Trauma Machine
We react to Josh Duggar's bond hearing, continue reading journal entries, and break down how fundamentalism exploits the vulnerable in order to reserve power for a select few.
S01 Episode 01: Duggars & JCPenney
In this introductory episode, the process of opening up begins with a serious (and occasionally lighthearted) look at the journal's first entries. We discuss the first Duggar meeting as well as early indicators of struggle with Josh. Family bands, JCPenney catalogs, home church, and congregational confession are discussed.
Love your style! Would love to hear your thoughts on more topics.
Very eye opening…
I hope you both continue to podcast even after this topic is completed.
Oldest brother in a family of 8 kids raped 2 of his sisters repeatedly for years and was never removed from the home. Siblings were still allowed to be around him. Siblings friends (me) were never told by the parents to avoid him. One of the abused girls told me not to come here (their house) because she heard him talking to his friend about me.
