    84. [Interview] Precious Brady-Davis Describes her Journey from Oppression to Optimism

    84. [Interview] Precious Brady-Davis Describes her Journey from Oppression to Optimism

I had the pleasure of speaking to Precious Brady-Davis on afternoon in July 2021. She recently published her book, I Have Always Been Me, in which she describes her childhood in great depth. She was abandoned... several times but key parental figures in her life.

She realized that she was "different" and so did others. This meant that her biracial background was an area of contention, as well as her "feminine" ways.

Precious has gone through tremendous obstacles, and used her faith as a foundation of her transition--both for gender as well as being vocal.

I enjoyed this interview, and am excited to share it with you.

Episode 83: Exhaustion, Shame and Guilt: Ways to Reduce this to feel like the Awesome Mom You Want to Be

Episode 83: Exhaustion, Shame and Guilt: Ways to Reduce this to feel like the Awesome Mom You Want to Be

My eyes blink rapidly while the rest of my face goes blank, and my body just goes limp. Why?
I realize that I still have a minimum of 2-3 loads of laundry to do, meal prep to complete for a few days, so I can build more "time" into the next few days, and declutter nearly every room because I am the owner of single socks.
I can feel a slight chill all over my body, my ribs tightening and my mind going back in time when I truly thought that handling motherhood, a career, pets, utilities were things I could do easily.
But, with a small intake of breath, I realize that easy is not what I can describe this as. The reason: doing it all is just too much.
I need help, and if I can't get help, I need to give myself a break.
Motherhood is not for every woman, and I respect that. I knew I wanted to be a mom, but I didn't realize the amount of time a little growing human takes from your time...even when they are not around. Knowing that I am of my son, still makes my heart race with excitement of truth and possibility. I am divorced, and though I have a cooperative co-parenting situation, I still know that the house, the job, the yard, the pets, the car upkeep, the groceries, etc., are mine alone.

According to this Motherly article, over 90 % of mothers feel burnt out. What can change that?

Self-care, but also, recognizing that in no way, shape or form, was it always meant to be on the mom's shoulders-married or not. Asking for help, saying no, and accepting your own limitations with regard to time and energy is important.

The motherly article points out Brene Brown is the Call to Courage Netflix program... leaning into the discomfort, and going with it.

Connection: how to build the connection
    Shame: fear of disconnection

Episode 82: Are you a shock-absorber or a Peacekeeper??? Is this healthy?

Episode 82: Are you a shock-absorber or a Peacekeeper??? Is this healthy?

    Peacemaker
    Peacekeepers

We have heard of these terms, and we tend to know who keeps the peace, and who disrupts it. But, is that "assignment" healthy for us?
Have you ever heard of the term Shock-Absorber? I had never heard of this term prior to reading Dr. Caroline's Leaf's Blog.  I have been following her work for quite some time, especially when she was interviewed by Steven Furtick.
She is a communication pathologist and cognitive neuroscientist with a Master's and PhD in Communication Pathology. She loves research, and how this relates to how we communicate with each other, and how we communicate within ourselves.
I invite you to listen to this podcast to hear my views on this topic and how this relates to self-esteem and self-worth.

81: [Interview] with Dr. Aviva Romm: Hormone Intelligence and Feeling Good!

81: [Interview] with Dr. Aviva Romm: Hormone Intelligence and Feeling Good!

Are you friends with your hormones?
Did you ever feel that you needed to be?
As women, we are often called "hormonal" if we make certain comments, or if we are perceived as "having an attitude." Sometimes, we state to ourselves that we are feeling "hormonal."
What does this mean though? Hormones are the enemy that we contend with from puberty through adulthood. This is responsible for the red blotches and acne that creep up right before photoshoots, or "Aunt Flo" comes on the day you wear your nice new crisp white pants to the picnic.
What if we could stop our go-go-go lifestyle long enough to hear what our body is saying, and learn that these hormones are whispering to us. It is for us to hear them, and answer accordingly. With this, we can move forward with fewer mood swings, better weight control and a happier life.
I had the wonderful opportunity to interview Dr. Aviva Romm as she launches her latest book- Hormone Intelligence: Hormone Intelligence: The Complete Guide to Calming Hormone Chaos and Restoring Your Body's Natural Blueprint for Well-Being.
