A sea change, a door opens.

Hello Everyone! James Durham here with some big updates!Sometimes cutting right to the point is the best way to handle it. So here it is:Earlier this year, I was diagnosed with cancer. Now, before you get worried about me, there is very good news. After testing and surgery, the diagnosis is as good as I could hope for. I was diagnosed with a form of cancer that is very curable, and on top of that, I caught it early at stage 1, so I plan to live a long and healthy life. I am very, very lucky. So please, no worries about that. I’m fine now, and life is, in fact, better than ever. But through all this, I changed, and I’m continuing to change. In a single, solitary moment, I experienced a profound shift in my heart. And I can’t shake it — I don’t want to shake it.The best way I can describe it, is that my life’s priorities magically reconfigured themselves right before my eyes. It’s a powerful sea change that I can’t and won’t ignore. I can’t pretend like life is the same as before. It’s not. While I lucked out with the diagnosis and treatment, this was the latest nudge in a series of nudges that have honed and refined my focus in life. One major development is that I have been focusing on my health right now — I’ve had to put a lot on hold  — and frankly I haven’t been able to update you all, as I’ve been focused on fixing something I’ve been neglecting for a long time.So I’m here to tell you that there’s a bit of a change coming at jamesdurham.com. And, for those of you who have followed some of my projects, like FETIDUS, I have important news.So I’ll start with FETIDUS. Am I ever going to release FETIDUS 2? Yes! But, it will still be while yet. FETIDUS 2 (lovingly known as "F2") has been coming along beautifully. I’ve actually rewritten and reworked huge parts of it, and I love how it’s coming together. I wasn’t satisfied with the previous versions, but this one… this one just feels right. Finally. A lot of sweat has gone into it so far. And yet, there’s still so much more to do.However, I’ve had to pause development of F2 for now as I’ve had to focus on my health and some very personal projects, which I’m about to share with you right now.For those of you who have been waiting patiently for F2, this might come as a bit of a disappointment to you. This was not an easy decision to make. F2 is finally starting to come together in just the way I had hoped. And I had been targeting this year to launch. But the change in my heart is too profound, and my priorities have honestly shifted.Hopefully you’ll see why this is so important to me in the months to come. But for now, F2 is on hold, as I make some major changes in my life.My choice of shifting my priorities was reconfirmed recently by the heart-breaking loss of a dear friend, PG Holyfield. Many of you knew him or were familiar with his work. I’ve mentioned him before, and he was set to play a major role in F2. He was struck down by a vicious form of cancer and his rapid passing was a shock to anyone who knew him. A large community of friends and supporters mourn his tragic passing and honor his life. He was one of the reasons why I got into podcasting in the first place, one of my mentors, who over the years became a dear friend. His friendship to me when I first found out about my own cancer early this year, showed a kindness, love and a quality of person I’ll never forget. I miss him. And I know many people do. When he was diagnosed with cancer we talked about doing a blog or podcast together about sharing our journeys, but his form of cancer devastated him so quickly, we never had a chance to do it. You can support PG Holyfield’s family at the PG Holyfield fund — there’s a lin…

F2!Monday, May 27, 10am - In the Underbelly of Post ProductionClick below to listen to the audio/podcast version of this post:First, you may have noticed that I’ve been moving FETIDUS over to jamesdurham.com from its old website. I've got a blog post explaining what’s going on called FETIDUS Has a New Home. Check it out if you haven’t read it yet. The short take is this: Exciting developments are happening with FETIDUS and I’m putting the pieces in place for what’s to come. Since I’m moving everything over to jamesdurham.com, now’s a good time to make sure you’re subscribed to the new links. Now, as many of you know, FETIDUS started out as an experimental labor of love, as I tried to merge my dual passions of storytelling and music production. The response has blown me away. Since Book I’s completion, I’ve had a good chance now to reflect on listener comments and how the whole production and release evolved, from top to bottom. Suffice it to say, I’m now taking FETIDUS to the next level. You heard that right, folks, Art Blanchard’s epic adventures will pick up where FETIDUS: The Damned Heir left off. I’ve finally decided to go straight to the next major part of the story. Yes, FETIDUS 2 – lovingly known for now as F2 -- is in production!I’ll release updates about the launch date and official title in the months to come as I dive even deeper into the fiery depths of production. I've also got some great artwork by Dede Putra, which I'll be posting from time to time. This is a huge process involving the talented cast and original music. It will be worth the wait. For now, here’s the latest:You can catch me at Balticon -- Memorial Day Weekend (May 24-27) -- and I’ll be on a number of panels, etc.. I’ll update the text of this post with my schedule at jamesdurham.com.I will mention two very special events that will take place at Balticon:First, I’ll be presenting the feature-length sci-fi indie film 95ers, the first project based on a universe and story I co-created with my talented brother Tom Durham. If there’s a dreamer inside you, you should watch this film.  It’s amazing to see what guerrilla indie film-making on a limited budget with a whole lot of support can look like. And of course, watch it for the story too! That’s one of the projects I’ve been working on in between rounds of FETIDUS.Second, I will do an unplugged, solo reading from FETIDUS 2… F2! This will be your first chance to hear what’s happening with Art Blanchard. I can’t wait to share it with you. After all, it’s about making the world a better place, right? If you make it to Balticon, there will be cool t-shirts, there will be pins, there will be donuts! Again, check back here at jamesdurham.com for the complete schedule. I hope to see some of you at Balticon!Make sure you visit jamesdurham.com and sign up for free email updates and double-check that you’re up to date with the new podcast feed, subscription links, etc… Remember, I’ve been migrating from the old website so now’s the time to make sure y…

Great Audiobook

One of the best audiobooks I have listened to in months. I would recommend it to everyone.

P.S. The only problem I have is the focus of the novel being on zombies. It seems to me that every second author these days has some sort of a zombie or vampire fetish. Isn't there any other topic to write about?

WOW WOW WOW - I can't find enough words to say how GREAT this audiobook is. The quality of the recording is superb. The story is well written and the character development is brilliant. Every day I listen to this story on my drive to work, I get there and I want to sit in the parking lot. Please make a sequal.

a great listen

i'm loving this book. its reminds me of a good Raymond Chandler novel, with a zombie twist. and who doesn't love a good zombie twist? better still, is the performance. while many podiobooks sound like they were made on a low budget, Fetidus is quite the production, with many different voices and wonderful music throughout. and the author reads this wonderfully. i cannot recommend this book enough!
