Should Your Lacrosse Goalie NOT Play High School Lacrosse?

Should Your Lacrosse Goalie NOT Play High School Lacrosse?

And for the first time, I was asked if this lacrosse goalie should actually bother with high school lacrosse and just play club. I knew this day would come eventually and it's a VERY valid discussion for some lacrosse goalies.

As always, I look forward to your questions and comments.

Weekly Lacrosse Goalie QnA - 1-13-2021

Weekly Lacrosse Goalie QnA - 1-13-2021

This week we are talking about:

Your goalies VOICE. How to make them project more and be HEARD.

How to improve the mental strength of your goalie.

Thoughts on the 2021 lacrosse goalie chest protector rules.

    And much more!

Part 1: Many lacrosse goalies struggle with being heard on the field. In this episode we're not talking about WHAT to say but HOW to say it. Changing voices. Shy kids. Popularity within a team. These can all have an affect on how a goalie can project their voice on the field of play. Today we're going to talk about how to help a goalie use their voice so people can hear them.

Part 2: I get asked a lot about how to improve the mental strength of your goalie. This is not a quick answer! It's actually the bulk of my work over at AthleteSpecific.com and the new MentalPerformanceSchool.com, but I'm going to do my best to uncover some gems in today's FB Live to help your goalie have better performance on game days.

Part 3: This is the year for new lacrosse goalie chest protectors and I'm not really happy about it. In this episode we'll talk about Commotio Cordis. Why the new chest protectors are a thing. And why I think they still suck. :)

As always, I look forward to your questions and comments.

Should You Add Weight To Your Lacrosse Goalie Stick To Move Faster?

Should You Add Weight To Your Lacrosse Goalie Stick To Move Faster?

The idea of adding weight to a lacrosse goalie stick to help a goalie move faster when they go back to a lighter stick has been around forever. And it's not just for lacrosse. This idea has been used in baseball and field events like discus, javelin, and shot put. But does it really help? Or worse...can it hurt your goalie and make them slower? In today's episode taken from our weekly Lacrosse Goalie QnA sessions, Coach Edwards discusses, in-depth, why weighting a lacrosse goalie stick may be a bad idea.

Weekly Lacrosse Goalie QnA COMPETE - 12/9/2020

Weekly Lacrosse Goalie QnA COMPETE - 12/9/2020

This week we are talking about:

How To Be a Leader On The Field Without Being an A-Hole

How To Run a Clear Most Goalies Can Succeed In

    And much more!

Part 1: Coaches will tell you that lacrosse goalies need to be the leader on the field. They are the quarterback. The second coach. All those things are great...but how do you be that kid without being an A-hole. Well? Being a leader on the field is not something that just happens by itself. The goalie doesn't just show up and become a leader. No, it's a process, and it's a process facilitated by great coaching, which, very few goalies have. But even without good coaching, a goalie can still create that leadership persona and help a defense thrive.

Part 2: I'm sick and tired of seeing good goalies ruined by bad clears. I'm also sick and tired of seeing new goalies put in situations where they are destined to fail because coaches don't know what the hell they are doing on the sideline. Today I'm going to do my best to do some telestration and show you just what a team needs to do on a clear and not just for youth, but this goes all the way through highschool and into college. Clearing should be simple. It should be systematic. It should be predictable. And when it's done well, it should turn into goals on the opposite end of the field!!

    Weekly Lacrosse Goalie QnA 11/18/2020

    Weekly Lacrosse Goalie QnA 11/18/2020

This week we are talking about:

How To Get an 8th Grader Ready To Start Varsity Next Year

Should Young Lacrosse Goalies Wear Elbow Pads

How To Use a Goalie Outside of the Crease

    And much more!

This week we've got some great topics to go over. I got a great FB message from an excited yet concerned mom whose 8th grader is going to end up as the starting varsity goalie next year. That's pretty cooll, but when you realize her goalie only has about a year and a half of playing experience, you can see why she might be a bit concerned. I lay out a complete plan for how this should go to make it go well, and give a ton of advice on ideas on how this can go horribly wrong.

We also discussed why I don't necessarily recommend elbow pads to lacrosse goalies. Surprise, right!? I mean, Coach Edwards, he's the guy that recommendes all the equipment for all the goalies to play better. Yes, yes I do. But this is where I make a couple of exceptions. I also recommend some alternatives for lacrosse goalies when it comes to protecting their elbows.

And lastly, I go over what to do if you've got a mobile lacrosse goalie with stick skills. Why most coaches screw this up, and how they ruin young lacrosse goalies. I also RANT about how most coaches who coach the girls game have absolutely NO CLUE how to use a goalie on the clear. If your goalie is fast and has good stick skills they should be an offensive threat. Why? Because offense starts when the save is made! NOT when the ball gets in the offensive half of the field.

Olympicjonathan ,

Finally a great resource for lacrosse goalies!

I've been reading Coach Edwards' blog for years and he continues to put out great content that you can't find anywhere else. It's lonely being a goalie, and a goalie parent! Can't wait for the next podcast Coach!
