    Episode 142: Annette Rodríguez

    Episode 142: Annette Rodríguez

On this occasion, Babelito sat with one of his favorite scholars, Annette Rodríguez from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC), to discuss the importance of understanding the history of the lynching of Mexicans in the southwest and the west coast during the late 19th and early 20th century. Annette first discusses the wonders of Hawaiian food and later contextualizes the vocabulary behind “hate crimes” “lynching” and the media we consume that continues to reiterate the invisibility of Mexicans in the long history of U.S. terrorism against our communities.  Do not forget to send us your emails with your questions to asklwlpod@gmail.com (mailto:asklwlpod@gmail.com)   #podsincolor #supportbrownpodcasts #supportlatinxpodcasts #supportlatinxbands #lwlpod

Episode 138: Francisco Guevara of Arquetopia

Episode 138: Francisco Guevara of Arquetopia

On this occasion, Babelito interviews the director of Arquetopia in Mexico and Peru, a residency program that both him and FavyFav have attended. They discuss the Middle Eastern influences on Mexican food and Francisco explains the process of developing residency programs in sites such as Puebla, Oaxaca and Cuzco. They talk about the myth of the artist, the myth of art and the problems Arquetopia has had with residents who seek to live their Latin American fantasies through their cultural production. Find out more about why Babelito is so critical to the art of Frida Kahlo, the real meaning of micro-aggressions, visibility, the difference between white guilt and white absolution, and the ways that we can use critical theory for our own advantage. Latinos Who Lunch

Latinos who Lunch is my absolute favourite podcast! It’s perfect for Latinos who need an outlet or some form of entertainment that focuses on Latin American culture. As a person who doesn’t have a lot of people to discuss Latino pop culture or our daily struggles with, this podcast is perfect for me. I find myself looking forward to their weekly episodes and of course, Babelito’s laugh. ~Lilia

Mexican Canadian Fan

I am a proud Mexican woman who moved to Canada at an early age. So I have always embraced the Canadian culture but have never forgotten where I come from. That is why I went looking for a Latin podcast to listen to while I am at work or on the bus. Out of pure luck I found this podcast and was hooked by Ep 2. Some of the discussions that Favy Fav and Babelito have on the show have started new trains of thought that lead to feelings and subconscious ideas that I knew were always there but never really dove into. They have helped me find other podcasts that also have interesting topics and points of conversation. Cheers guys! Love from YYC.
