Were you born in the Seventies? Join us for the sounds of the 70s every Saturday morning. Martin and Venetia will take you to the decade of denim flares, burnt orange kitchen benchtops and the birth of disco and glam rock! Each week we'll have a 70's theme that we'll explore, such as songs from disaster movies, movement anthems, one-hit wonders, daggy duets, funky numbers, and disco tracks that steamed up the dance floor in many an LGBTI venue, to name just a few. The 70s produced some amazing music and we're here to make sure that music is shared and never lost. NOTE: Due to music licencing requirements this podcast is unavailable outside of Australia.

It’s almost International Cat Day and, as you know, here at Living in the 70s, we love a theme.  So this week we’ve put together a show full of 1970s tunes about animals. We’ve got cool cats, disco ducks, night owls, dead skunks and many more. And they’re quacking, canoodling and generally carrying on. It’s a marvellous, musical, menagerie!

    The other A sides

    The other A sides

A few weeks ago we put together a show featuring one side of a few double A side singles released in the 1970s. It was a bit of a thing in the Seventies, record companies releasing two songs from an album at the same time, believing that both would be hits. Sometimes this turned out to be true, sometimes not.  On this show we play the ‘other A side’ of the tracks we played on the previous show. And you know what? Many of these songs are just as good. Maybe those record companies were on to something after all…

    All Australian, all hits

    All Australian, all hits

After spending a couple of weeks in North America, we thought it was time to remind ourselves and you, our listeners, just how fabulous home grown music was in the 1970s. So this week it’s all Australian artists and all tracks that made it into the top 40 of the Australian charts.

    American Woman

    American Woman

It’s our 4th of July show! As usual, we celebrate America’s Independence Day by dedicating a show to music from American artists. This year, in light of the overturning of Roe v Wade – which in 1973 gave American women the right to choose an abortion- we ask ‘independence day for whom?’ We recognise that many American women now have their independence severely curtailed. In solidarity we decided to feature Seventies tracks only by female artists from that great but troubled country. Happy 4th of July – our bodies our choice!

    Northern Delights

Happy Canada Day! This week, in honour of Canada Day on July 1st, Marty and Venetia celebrate the immense contribution of Canadian artists to the music scene of the 1970s. Some well known luminaries make the list, Joni Mitchell and Neil Young for example, as well as some folk who made it big in the Great White North but are perhaps not so well known elsewhere, or only popped up briefly on the international radar. Not being from Canada ourselves, we are certain to have missed some important local artists, so if you are outraged that we didn’t include your favourite 70s Canadian act, pop on to our Facebook page and let us know for next year.

EOFY is here! This week Marty and Venetia are busy doing a stocktake, balancing the books and getting ready for the auditors. To keep us company we’ve put together a playlist of Seventies tracks all about money and the things we do to make it.
