Mental Health Meets Entrepreneurship: With Psychotherapist and Entrepreneur Steven Morrison
In this episode, we dive into what it means to approach mental health from a soul-centered perspective—and why traditional models might be ready for an upgrade.
I’m joined by Steven, a mental health entrepreneur, licensed psychotherapist, and creator of Spiritual Workout: Mental Health For Your Soul. Steven shares his fascinating journey from corporate life to clinical practice, and how he’s now building a low-tech, high-touch counseling model designed to reach underserved communities at scale.
We explore grief, conscious living, and why mental health needs to be both practical and spiritual to help people truly thrive. Whether you’re navigating personal growth, healing, or entrepreneurship, this conversation offers powerful insights into mental health, soul work, and creating meaningful change.
Steven began his career as a self-described “corporate hack” before reinventing himself as a psychotherapist and ultimately founding Spiritual Workout. He’s passionate about democratizing mental health care and creating innovative solutions for healing and transformation.
Steven is the author of An Extra Year: Grief and Loss in the New Age and writes The Conscious Politics Op-Ed on Substack. He lives in the mountains of Southern California, balancing clinical work with writing and visionary entrepreneurship.

As entrepreneurs, we spend so much time growing our mindset, our strategy, and our skills — but the truth is, none of it works without a regulated nervous system and a body that can keep up.
Your vagus nerve, your stress levels, your energy, your sleep, your focus, and even visceral fat all play a massive role in how you show up in your business.
If you’re curious about the plant-based, one-ingredient daily tincture I use to support my own health, stress, clarity, and performance — I made a simple page that walks you through what it is and why it’s been such a game-changer for me.

Transcript
[00:00:00] Steven shares how a personal financial crisis upended his life just as he was launching his business. Walking home in New York, he felt an unfamiliar sense of unhappiness—and realized he had to surrender completely and trust only decisions from his heart, not his head.
[00:05:00] He explains leaving a successful psychotherapy practice because he was bored repeating the same conversations. Instead, he created Spiritual Workout, bringing powerful conversations from private sessions into group settings to benefit more people.
[00:09:00] Steven shares the 15 core concepts of Spiritual Workout—from “Be Compassionate” and “Beliefs Matter” to “We Belong to the Planet.” These principles guide clients through personal transformation.
[00:13:00] Kelley asks how adversity shaped Steven’s purpose. He describes losing his house, money, and community during the 2008 financial crisis—and how his spiritual practice kept him grounded through a 12-year stretch of poverty.
[00:18:00] Steven discusses the role of taking responsibility and examining core beliefs like “life is a struggle” or “I can’t have what I want.” He worked relentlessly to transform beliefs that no longer served him.
[00:23:00] He emphasizes the Law of Attraction as a daily practice. Everything we experience has already been created by past thoughts, so focusing on what we want is essential for shifting reality.
[00:28:00] Guest Jody Crawford joins the episode, sharing her transition from teaching to entrepreneurship. She speaks about raising her prices and the inner conflict between valuing herself and fearing what clients can afford.
[00:33:00] Steven guides Jody through the Spiritual Workout process: getting clear on intentions, identifying limiting beliefs, and systematically transforming those beliefs into empowering ones using techniques like EFT tapping.
[00:40:00] Kelley asks Steven how his definition of success has changed. For Steven, success now means feeling happy, aligned, connected, and living with joy rather than chasing external markers like money or titles.
[00:45:00] Steven’s advice for listeners: get present, listen to inspiration, get clear about what you want, and examine your beliefs. Living intentionally and staying aligned are the keys to creating the life you desire.
