Podcast On A Pole Ep 2: 1996....We are F'N DEAD!

Podcast in a Pole is a monthly episodic podcast, looking back at wrestling’s Monday Night War, through the eyes of one’s of its biggest influences, Vince Russo. As the head-writer as both the WWE and WCW, Russo was involved with some of wrestling’s most famous segments, featuring the likes of Stone Cold Steve Austin, The Rock, The Undertaker, Mick Foley, DX, Bret Hart, Hulk Hogan, Ric Flair, Rowdy Roddy Piper, Goldberg, the NWO and more.

This episode picks up where the first episode left off, with Vince Russo working as the editor of WWF Magazine. It wasn’t long into 1996 before he was the editor of the hugely popular and innovative Raw Magazine - a concept that was the brainchild of Russo himself - which he has credited as the catalyst behind the ‘attitude era.’ While discussing Raw Magazine’s most famous covers and articles throughout 1996, we delve into all of the most significant stories of the year. This includes Shawn Michaels title run, the formation of the NWO, the return of the Ultimate Warrior, the rise of Stone Cold Steve Austin, the evolution of Goldust, the signing of Brian Pillman and much much more.

As you expect from Vince Russo, he pulls no punches while maintaining his ‘truth and nothing but the truth’ ethos, subsequently giving you the most in-depth, revealing and informative look at 1996 - one of the most significant years in wrestling history - that you’ve ever heard.

Podcast On A Pole EP 1: The Birth of Vic Venom

Podcast On A Pole EP 1: The Birth of Vic Venom

Podcast in a Pole is a monthly episodic podcast, looking back at wrestling’s Monday Night War, through the eyes of one’s of its biggest influences, Vince Russo. As the head-writer as both the WWE and WCW, Russo was involved with some of wrestling’s most famous segments, featuring the likes of Stone Cold Steve Austin, The Rock, The Undertaker, Mick Foley, DX, Bret Hart, Hulk Hogan, Ric Flair, Rowdy Roddy Piper, Goldberg, the NWO and more.

This podcast is a month by month account of Vince Russo’s time with both companies, however, before we get to Russo the head writer, we need uncover how he ended up there in the first place. This premier episode touches on his early years - including his education, hobbies and goals - before moving on to his time owning video stores, which would lead to some very interesting brushes with WWF talent, who would make appearances in his stores. With Blockbusters taking over the video rental game, Russo was looking to move on, and it wouldn’t be long before the wrestling world would be introduced to a guy by the name of “Vic Venom.”

We discuss how everything came to fruition - from his wrestling radio show in the early 90’s, his first initial run-in (and heat) with Dave Meltzer, a life changing letter to Linda McMahon and how he went from a $150 freelancer to the head-writer of WWF Magazine. But this isn’t your standard chronological journey through his life up to 1996, with a plethora of stories along the way, we guarantee more than a handful of dirt sheets headlines- just from this episode alone. Whether it be Jake the Snake’s jealous eyes, Dave Meltzer’s mindless ignorance, Sable’s painted boobs or Diesel’s cheesy smile, you can’t afford to miss this opening show.
