Episode 32: Let's Talk About The Stigma Surrounding Mental Health with Dr. Nahla

Episode 32: Let's Talk About The Stigma Surrounding Mental Health with Dr. Nahla

In this episode, we talked to Dr. Nahla about the stigmas surrounding mental health in our communities. Dr. Nahla earned her undergraduate degree in Health Sciences where she learned about the social determinants of health, igniting her passion to support and advocate for underserved communities and minorities as a healthcare professional. Nahla is breaking the stigma associated with mental health in minority communities and encouraging proactively seeking the care they need in a way that is meaningful to them.  We answered many of the questions that you all asked including: "How can one respectfully explain to people the importance of seeking professional help and that mental illness is not linked to being a bad Muslim?" "How can young Muslims seek mental health help? What should they do if their parents/guardians do not approve of it or do not understand their struggles?" "How should someone deal with having suicidal thoughts or when they know that a friend is having suicidal thoughts?" "Even if someone does have access to therapy/counseling, what things should they consider as a Muslim going into therapy?" and etc. Tune into this episode & share your thoughts with us. Our DMs are always open.

Episode 29: Let's Delve Into The Taboo Series!

Episode 29: Let's Delve Into The Taboo Series!

In this episode, we will briefly talk about why we decided to create the taboo series and what you all can expect from us during this time.
As you all may know, we started this podcast with the goal to discuss the good, the bad, & the ugly of life as a young Muslim today. We started this podcast to create a platform for young Muslims, somewhere where they feel heard & represented.
So far, we have spoken about so many topics in relation to the life of a young Muslim; however, in order to continue to fulfill the purpose of this podcast, we want to dedicate more time to those topics that are considered shameful and stigmatized in our communities. Tune in to this episode & share it with your family & friends! Get pumped, peeps! It's about to get REAL!

Episode 28: Growing Into Our True Selves!

Episode 28: Growing Into Our True Selves!

Welcome back to another episode! In today’s episode, we talk about the journey of growing into our true selves. The process happens as we get older and is a life long journey, in our opinion! We believe that everyone’s journey is different; however,  as young Muslims, we have seen that there are many unique elements that overlap within this process. We hope that you all enjoy this episode & we encourage you all to take the time to sit with yourselves and reflect upon your own journeys, and we would love to hear if you were able to find bits of your story in this episode.
Remember, you can always reach out to us through DMs or our email, realtalkrealmuslims@gmail.com, if you ever want to share anything with us! Thank you for following our podcast journey. We appreciate everyone single one of you!

    Episode 27: We're Not Really Strangers - Let's Talk!

    Episode 27: We're Not Really Strangers - Let's Talk!

In today’s episode, we pulled questions from the “We’re Not Really Strangers Game” & answered them together. This is not an ordinary game; it gets you to self-reflect, have meaningful conversations, & pushes you to become vulnerable & self-aware. The goal of this episode is explore how to become more comfortable to be vulnerable at any time even when we do not feel particularly “picture perfect.” We hope that you all enjoy this episode and take the moment, with your family, friends, and us to find the answers to these questions for yourself.

Grab a beverage & a snack and get ready to tune in to this week's episode! 3

What a great initiative!

I love the topics they raise every day especially young Muslims living in the west and the issues they face in everyday life. we all should discuss and share our fundamental values and how we deal with them.
