    Transitions w/ Geoff Connors, MD

    Our guest on this episode is Dr. Geoff Connors, MD. Dr. Connors is the Associate Dean for GME and Designated Institutional Official at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. He was previously the Program Director for the University of Colorado Internal Medicine Residency Program and Vice Chair of Education for the Department of Medicine where he helped bring about several systematic changes to the structure of the residency to improve resident wellbeing. Dr. Geoffrey Connors is an Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Colorado in the Division of Pulmonary Sciences and Critical Care Medicine. He also serves as the Associate Dean for Graduate Medical Education/ACGME Designated Institutional Official at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. Prior to coming to Colorado, Dr. Connors was an Associate Professor of Medicine at Yale University where he served as an Associate Program Director in the Residency Training Program and the Director of Clinical Reasoning for the Medical School.   Dr. Connors received his medical degree from Tulane University, did his residency and Chief Medical Residency at the University of Colorado, and then completed a fellowship in Pulmonary, Critical Care & Sleep Medicine at Johns Hopkins. University School of Medicine He is a member of the American Thoracic Society and is board-certified in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Medicine, and Critical Care Medicine. His leadership style is rooted in a coaching model with a focus on achieving success by granting agency and structured autonomy to trainees and junior faculty.     Learn from Your Learners w/ Shanta Zimmer, MD

    Shanta M. Zimmer, MD is the Senior Associate Dean for Education and Professor of Medicine at the University of Colorado School of Medicine (CUSOM). An infectious diseases specialist, Dr. Zimmer completed her medical school, residency, and fellowship training at Emory University in Atlanta.  She left Emory to join the faculty at the University of Pittsburgh in 2008 initially as director of the translational research track in the Master’s in Clinical Science training program and then as the internal medicine residency program director.  Dr. Zimmer joined CU School of Medicine in June 2016 as the associate dean for diversity, equity and inclusion, a role she held until fall 2022. In 2017, Dr. Zimmer stepped into the role of Senior Associate Dean for Education and in this capacity she directs the office of medical education and oversees the educational initiatives of the School of Medicine including undergraduate, graduate and continuing medical education.  After a successful site visit by the LCME in spring 2017, Dr. Zimmer and her team launched a curriculum revision process and implemented the innovative Trek Curriculum in fall 2021.
