Who comes to your mind when you think about what it means to have a life that is well-lived? What do you think goes into living well?
Genesis 15, upon first reading, is a strange passage. What do you do when you come upon stories like this in your own reading of the Bible? How do you try to find their meaning?
Read Genesis 15:2-5 - God asks Abram to live in light of his promises even when it means surrendering control.. Do you find it easy to surrender control in your own life? Why or why not?
Read Genesis 5:8-20 - Why would God go through the process of the covenant ceremony with Abraham? Why not just make the promise and move on? How do you think God uses specific moments to form us as followers of Christ?
God passes through the covenant and promises to take on the curse of the broken covenant along. This is ultimately fulfilled by the cross of Jesus Christ. Why do you think it is so hard to trust that Jesus really has paid it all? What holds you back from knowing that all your sin (past, present, and future) have been forgiven by Christ?
What things do you anchor your life to that ARENT Jesus? How can we as a community support you in trusting Jesus alone as your anchor?

    PRAYER

Pray for a personal experience of Gods immense love that mark us for a lifetime.
Pray for clarity to anchor our hope in Christ and in Christ alone.

    COMMUNITY Study Questions

Read 1 Peter 2:11 - 12. How does living as foreigners and exiles affect our attitudes, our actions and our interactions with the people in the culture around us?
    Read Genesis 14:11 - 16.

Do you think Abram was wise to rescue his nephew Lot? Why or why not?
Is it always good to pursue reconciliation of relationships if there has been hurt? Why or why not?

    Read Genesis 14:17 - 20.

Abram gave 10% of everything as a tithe out of gratitude to God.Why do you think he did this, instead of simply saying thank you and promising to keep following God?
Randy Alcorn writes: The principle is timeless: There is a powerful relationship between our true spiritual condition and our attitudes and actions concerning money and possessions.
What does he mean by this? What are some reasons why a follower of Jesus might find it difficult to give a percentage of their income regularly to God as part of what it means to follow after him?
Why is giving regularly and consistently such a good practice for those who follow Jesus?

Read Genesis 14:21 - 24. Abram doesnt want the king of Sodom to steal any of the glory that is due to God for the good things in Abrams life and so he gives to the king of Sodom all that was his, even though technically he didnt have to. His integrity was more important than the possessions that he would gain.

When we are tempted to trade our integrity for some kind of gain, it is rarely a black and white decision. More often than not, it is in the grey areas. How should we navigate questions of integrity when it comes to the grey areas of life?

What stood out to you from the sermon?
Read Genesis 13:1 - 7. The problem that Abram faced in this story was due to his prosperity, not his poverty. In your experience, do you find yourself walking by faith more in the midst of prosperity or the midst of hardship? Why do you think this is the case for you? How might you correct this in your walk of faith?
Read Genesis 13:8 - 13. It doesnt seem that Lot specifically chose this land because it would lead him to Sodom (where there was much evil) and yet he ended up there. Why do you think this happened to Lot? How does this happen for us today? If it happens so subtly that we hardly notice, how can we become aware of it in our life without becoming defensive?
    Read Genesis 13:14 - 16.

When you lift your eyes to look back at Gods grace and kindness in your life, what is one (brief) story or example that you can share with your group about how God has been faithful in your life?
It is not always easy to lift our eyes, especially when we are in the midst of difficult times. When you need help lifting your eyes to see Gods promises in your life, to whom or where do you turn to help you?

Read Genesis 13:17 - 18. Where is God calling you to live in the land and trust Him that He has led you there at this stage in your life? What does this look like for you?
