Summary: Adapted from a previously preached homily on the Book of Ruth, this sermon takes listeners along the journey of two widows: Naomi (from Bethlehem in Judah) and Ruth (a foreigner from Moab). This tragic and ultimately hope-filled story gives Bible-believing people permission to both lament our misfortune and believe that God may yet have something more in store for us. The good news Frederick expounds is that God often works through the marginalized, the scandalized, and the traumatized to bring about God's ultimate redemptive purposes. God even works through an outsider like Ruth to facilitate the redemption of those inside the covenant community.
