Emily in Paris stereotypes and the Savage X Fenty show shambles

Emily in Paris stereotypes and the Savage X Fenty show shambles

Hello, hello! Excuse my short hiatus, I am back with a new episode.

Today we’re getting our hands deep in the cringe but loveable chaos that is Emily in Paris. Is it really that bad? The constant cliches and stereotypes have led a lot of people, many French critics included to think so.

I reference this Pedestrian TV article by Steffanie Tan about the backlash the show has received so far and mention this interview by Emma Baty with show star Lucas Bravo.

An excerpt from an Evening Standard piece by Elizabeth Kesses perfectly sums up my thoughts, as well as an article by Grace O’Neill for Grazia about why shit TV is sometimes just shit TV and it’s OK to love it.

Oh, and I recommend this Pedestrian TV story by Michael Do Iorio if you want a good laugh about all the social media marketing mistakes in the show.

Plus, the recent Savage X Fenty lingerie show used a remix of an Islamic Hadith, which is part of a collection of sacred texts. Rhianna has since issued an apology but the Islamic community is upset, and rightfully so when the brand prides itself on diverse representation.

Read this BBC story by Nabihah Parkar for more information.

I recommend a book by Shameless Podcast hosts, Michelle Andrews and Zara McDonald. The Space Between is the pairs collection of essays, prose, lists and more and is their hearts on the pages. It’s a poignant and beautiful collection of shared experiences from their twenties and I recommend you read it.

JK Rowling is at it again

JK Rowling is at it again

Hello lovely human! I hope you’re having a great week.

Today we’re talking about the clusterfuck that is JK Rowling’s new book concept and how it’s harmful to the trans community. Ailish talks about this SBS article by Eden Gillespie and references this CNN piece by Lianne Kolirin.

Plus, Chris Evans (aka Captain America) leaked his own nudes and the internet’s reaction is worth talking about. Why do we not respond to women who get hacked or have their nudes leaked with the same respect?

And how could I talk about this week without mentioning the amazing essay in The Cut by Emily Ratajkowski. It’s most definitely worth reading and is very confronting about the harsh realities of being in the public eye and the turmoils of the modelling industry.

I recommend a piece on Mamamia by Keryn Donnelly. It’s an analysis of a recent shift in a reality TV edit that has seen the ‘wifey’ turning the ‘villain’ and will make you reconsider your initial thoughts about people on reality TV shows. Always critique your initial opinions about people on shows where it’s so highly edited.

A lack of representation in Hollywood? Sounds about white

A lack of representation in Hollywood? Sounds about white

Hey hey friends. We’re back with another (slightly late) episode. Thanks for tuning in.

Let’s chat about representation in Hollywood, or more so the lack of. Some new stats from the Annenberg Inclusion Institute have revealed we have a long way to go. A Huffington Post article by Marina Fang broke down the new stats and dove into the new guidelines for best picture nominees at the Oscars, but are they enough?

And you might have heard an empire is coming to a close... Keeping Up With The Kardashians has announced its last season will air next year. Let's take a look at the impact this family has had on influencer culture and the brand empire they have built.

I recommend a wonderful podcast, the Little Women Podcast. It’s a show for teenagers, by teenagers, but don’t discouraged it applies to people outside of that too!

If you enjoyed this episode please give it a review.

Stop chasing perfection and learn self-acceptance w/ Meredith Mistrot

Stop chasing perfection and learn self-acceptance w/ Meredith Mistrot

Hello, happy Monday! I hope you’re having a great week.

It’s another guest episode and this time I’m joined by Genuine Girl podcast host, Meredith Mistrot. Meredith is a 20-year-old college student in Texas and a recently published author. In her book, Practice Makes Imperfect, and her podcast, Meredith dives into all things self-love. She shares her personal journey with becoming her most genuine and best self and gives tips and tricks to help you learn to do the same. Meredith and I chat about conquering a fear of failure, finding your own crowd and discovering your personal identity.

I hope you love this chat as much as I do.

I recommend a TV show this week, Netflix’s The Umbrella Academy. It’s a comic adaptation that takes a serious approach to a dysfunctional family of super humans, oh and the apocalypse is looming too.

If you enjoyed this episode please give it a review.

TikTok trauma porn and can celebrities 'ruin' OnlyFans

TikTok trauma porn and can celebrities 'ruin' OnlyFans

Hello again! I hope you're having a wonderful day and have a great week ahead. It's time to deep dive again ... Bella Thorne is in big trouble for recently launching her OnlyFans account. Vulture did a great explainer article by Madison Malone Kircher to help you wade through the drama. She made $2 million in a week and she's in hot water for gentrifying the platform and taking it away from sex workers. Read Bella's Twitter apology for yourself and let me know your thoughts.

And have you seen a TikTok turning a trauma into a costume? It's a thing and some call it trauma porn. TikTok creators have hopped onto a trend where they dress up as Holocaust victims and it's pretty damn terrible. Read more about it at this Insider article by Sophia Ankel.

I recommend a podcast episode this week. It's a great chat between the lovely Jameela Jamil and the Shameless podcast journalists, Michelle Andrews and Zara McDonald.

I recommend an easy to watch sitcom to binge your feelings away, New Girl.
