Having a tough time listening lately.

Kate’s assessment of what polyamory is was problematic, judgemental and inadequately researched (a quick Siri search infused with your own monogamy bias is inadequate). It is becoming a theme that she comments or participates in projects that prioritize voices about communities in which she doesn’t have claim to, instead of listening to the voices of the members of those communities. I used to really enjoy this podcast, but it’s becoming difficult to listen to her diminish people with different life experiences. Insincere apologies mean nothing if you don’t do the work. Some things aren’t for everyone, like monogamy, or polyamory. There’s no need to boost one at the expense of the other. This was my first episode back after her Ziegler sisters episode, which was also problematic. So disappointing to return to an episode that was dismissive and ill informed right off the bat. I would love to see a commitment to be better informed about other communities before trying to speak to them.
