Episode 198 - Feeling Hot Hot Hot... About the Kraken's Latest Moves

Episode 198 - Feeling Hot Hot Hot... About the Kraken's Latest Moves

We're having a heat wave in the Pacific Northwest, and the weather warmed just as the Kraken made some hot offseason moves. Coincidence? Probably.

Seattle pulled an unexpected and slick trade for Oliver Bjorkstrand, signed Michal Kempny, and re-signed Morgan Geekie and Ryan Donato. On this episode of the Sound Of Hockey Podcast, John, Andy, and Darren breakdown these moves and more.

Once the talk of these recent dealings subsides, the guys shift to answering questions from their mailbag, which got plenty of participation this week.

Next, they discuss recent trades and signings made around the league, especially the Matthew Tkachuk/Johnathan Huberdeau blockbuster.

Finally, the hosts close out the show with Weekly One-Timers and Tweets of the Week.

Episode 197 - Are the Kraken Mostly Done with Offseason Moves?

Episode 197 - Are the Kraken Mostly Done with Offseason Moves?

It has been a very busy week around the hockey world and for the Seattle Kraken. Now that the dust has settled, John, Andy, and Darren have a lot to recap and consider, and they do just that on this week's episode of the Sound Of Hockey Podcast.

The guys start with a breakdown of Seattle's biggest free agent signings and give their thoughts on what the team did as a whole. They also discuss Ron Francis's closing press conference on free agency day and the reports that Eddie Olczyk could be joining the Kraken organization.

After lots of Kraken talk, the guys shift their attention to the NHL as a whole, giving time to the Matthew Tkachuk situation in Calgary and Johnny Gaudreau's departure from that team. They also do an "Interesting or Carry On" for free-agent signings and trades throughout the league.

They close the show with Weekly One-Timers and Tweets of the Week.

Episode 196 - Donato Likely Out / Prospects Here / Free Agency Prep

Episode 196 - Donato Likely Out / Prospects Here / Free Agency Prep

This has been and will continue to be an extremely busy couple of weeks for the Seattle Kraken. They followed up an awesome draft by bringing all their prospects in for development camp, which remains underway. That camp coincides with the deadline for qualifying restricted free agents (Seattle opted not to offer contracts to Ryan Donato, Haydn Fleury, Daniel Sprong, or Dennis Cholowski). It also coincides with free agency opening on Wednesday.

With all this in mind, John, Andy, and Darren try to talk you off the ledge a bit about the players that are (likely) not being brought back by trying to help you understand the big picture of these decisions. An important piece of that is the many quality players that will be available in free agency, so they also help you prep for that.

Also on this episode, the guys will take a journey around the league to bring you up to speed on decision (trades, qualifying offers, etc.) that are being made around the league.

On this bonus episode, Curtis (@DeepSeaHockey) makes his SOH Podcast debut, filling in temporarily for Andy. Along with John and Darren, Curtis shares lots of good draft analysis.

It's a fun recap, with lots of hot takes. Enjoy!

The Giordano of Podcasts

At first I thought these were just some kids recording a podcast in their parents’ basement, then I looked them up and realized they’re legitimate journalists! Joking aside, I love this pod and look out for it each week. As a newbie to hockey it’s given me a great grasp of the fundamentals, as well as the nuances, of the game. Like our dearly departed Captain Gio, they’re solid and dependable seasoned pros, even if they’re starting to show their age a little. 5 Stars (although Andy Eide never responds to my tweets so he gets a 3.5). Keep up the good work!
