    The Right To Invent

Dr. Lisa Cook had a hunch that although African Americans were “free to invent,” the threat of violence that inventors in this community faced had a direct impact on their ability to engage in the free flow of ideas. As the first African American to earn a Ph.D. within the Department of Biomedical Sciences at Florida State University, Dr. Jones experienced difficulty in completing her studies while witnessing racial injustice all around her.
