86 | "I wanted my baby born into an Aboriginal context" - Bridget Brennan on Indigenous maternal care, grief, and birth during COVID

In this week's episode, Bridget Brennan, journalist and former Europe correspondent for the ABC, tells her story of returning from London mid-pandemic to become a first-time mother. Despite moving back in large part for family support, border closures put an end to that plan. And after the crushing realisation that her mother wouldn't be able to be with her for the birth and postpartum, her father passed away just a day after her little boy was born.

We talk about everything from the incredible Malabar midwives program for indigenous women, breastfeeding struggles, mothers group, what happened when Bridget's husband returned to work, sleep angst, asking for help and lots more.

Relatable!

I wish I had listened to this podcast before I’d gone through my own fourth trimester. Episode 51’s guest feels like I’m the one being interviewed! Really great to hear other stories and feel like I’m not alone.

A great podcast for all mothers and soon to be mothers

I am really enjoying this podcast! It’s honest and provides a welcome space for all mothers. I wish I had listened to this when I was pregnant so I knew more of what to expect in early motherhood and the transition into motherhood (the beauty and brutality of it all). I probably would have surrendered earlier or at least known other people out there were going through the same things.
