TRL 116: Establishing Healthy Work Life Balance & Company Culture When Working Remotely with Kerry Guard

TRL 116: Establishing Healthy Work Life Balance & Company Culture When Working Remotely with Kerry Guard

I'm super excited to be joined today by Kerry Guard, the co-founder, and COO of MKG Marketing. Most agencies struggle with massive employee churn, it's just one of the natures of the industry. Working at an agency is a fantastic way to gain experience and learn new skills, but it can also be hard work...which is why many agencies churn through employees at a high rate, constantly having to hire and replace talent. MKG, however, is different. In fact, they haven't lost an employee in years! And that has a lot to do with their people-first approach.

As the COO of MKG Marketing, Kerry has helped develop and put into action their company values which focus on a people-first approach. They offer their employees a great salary, top of the line benefits, and give them the flexibility that most agencies could never match. But their ability to retain top talent goes much further than that.

During this interview, I got to ask Kerry exactly how they built this incredible company culture, how we can apply their lessons to smaller online businesses, and how to create a healthy work-life balance while working remotely so we can stay mentally strong and avoid burnout.

TRL 115: The Gigification of Work & Biggest Business Opportunities in a Remote World with Mike Elgan

TRL 115: The Gigification of Work & Biggest Business Opportunities in a Remote World with Mike Elgan

Today on the podcast I am joined by Mike Elgan, a journalist, opinion columnist, and author who specializes in technology-enabled life transformation. Since beginning his journalism career in the early 90s he has written for publications like Computerworld, Security Intelligence, and many others.

I first met Mike in a Clubhouse room discussing the digital nomad lifestyle and then read an article he wrote for ComputerWorld titled "When work from home becomes work from anywhere" which outlined the long-term changes businesses will have to go through in order to continue operating remotely. During this interview, Mike and I talked about what got him interested in writing about tech in the first place, and we dove in deep into the rabbit hole of how work and business will change in a remote-first world, what many businesses are doing wrong as they transition to a remote work environment, and the biggest opportunities this shift is creating.

If you are you are at all curious about how remote work and technology will impact our world and economy over the next decade and beyond, or are exploring opportunities for a new business you are not going to want to miss this episode!

Today on the podcast I am joined by my friend Chapin Kreuter to discuss the Nomad Capitalist Live 2021 event, what was talked about, the biggest takeaways, and who it's right for.

Nomad Capitalist Live is a conference put on by Andrew Henderson and the rest of the Nomad Capitalist team that took place May 12-15th, 2021 in Playa del Carmen, Mexico. While I did not have the chance to attend this year, Chapin did, so I decided to call him up and find out what it was all about, and his personal experience as an attendee.

TRL 113: How Fred Perrotta Built Tortuga Backpacks & The Future of Remote Work

TRL 113: How Fred Perrotta Built Tortuga Backpacks & The Future of Remote Work

Today on the podcast I am very excited to be joined by Fred Perrotta, the founder, and CEO of Tortuga Backpacks. I have been a fan of Tortuga since I started traveling and I own several of their bags and love the products. Besides making amazing bags for digital nomads and professional travelers, Tortuga is also a fully remote company, and most of their staff are made up of digital nomads, so they truly represent who they serve.

During this interview, Fred and I discussed how he and his cofounder started Tortuga after reading the 4 Hour Work Week and taking a backpacking trip to Europe, what the future of online business and remote work looks like, and we also got to nerd out on bags, product design, and every day carry. If you are a digital nomad, a remote work nerd, or an aspiring entrepreneur I think you are going to find this interview very interesting.

Wish this show was around when I was getting started!

Love the quality of the guests on this podcast and the insights they have into building a remote working lifestyle. I really could've used this show when I was starting out in business a few years ago. Mitko is a fantastic host, and I'm super excited to see where this show goes!
