I’m a big fan of this subject material and was hopeful. However the more I listened the less enthusiastic I became. There are two possible facts for this material - the what, who and how story - and that is an interesting and fulsome story in and of itself. Then there is the why - and that story is challenging and difficult and can’t be done well unless the analysis is thoughtful and not unduly biased from the outset. This podcast has adequate what who and how - bit it could have been expanded on so much more. Where it fails is in the repeated deviations into the why analysis and these seem mostly superficial and broad and use familiar and often wrong easy historical tropes. If you wish this type of material read Richard Rhodes or Margaret McMillan Lastly and admittedly very much stylistically - it feels very “read” rather than “told”. A huge difference bc and may reflect inexperience of the author. And the sound effects - a hard pass for me. Not necessary for a good story and here clumsily and thick handedly done.
