Survival guide on managing and expressing your emotions
Given the current historical and unprecedented global sanitary crisis we’re all experiencing and especially here in Italy (where there are more than 10.000 cases of people infected with the new Coronavirus “Covid-19” and where more than 600 people died from it), finally learning to handle and properly surf the emotional roller-coaster we all feel at the same time is crucial.
The country may have been completely locked down, growing yourself and expanding your mind over what looks like additional limitations that the government is putting on us to keep us safe and prevent the health and economic systems from collapsing is still at your fingertips, or, to be exact, at ear distance.
Well, this is exactly what we’ll be doing in today’s episode by becoming experts at overcoming huge emotional waves coming our way and how to transform that energy into a more productive and enjoyable one to be release onto the world.
This “Survival guide on managing and expressing your emotions” closes the loop of this mini-series dedicated to dealing with your own emotions. While we’ve talked about how emotions work in the first episode, and how to understand and embrace all types of emotions last week, in today’s episode we’ll finally focus on how to manage and express them in a healthy manner.
In each episode, we’ve gone through each and every one of these topics and I have been giving you concrete tools and powerful techniques of course to harness them. Today won’t disappoint either, I promise :)

How to read people
“Why the heck do I feel like crying my eyes out right in the middle of this meeting?” “Can I please kill my boss and get away with it?” “Where can I buy a magic wand to just switch ON or OFF my feelings on demand?”
Emotions are one of the most misunderstood parts of us that, however, we can’t live without. Indeed, they are electrochemical signals that are produced in the hypothalamus and get spread through our body within 6 seconds in a never-ending cycle. They operate in a neutral way simply to deliver a message in order to catch our attention on something we should be aware of, or, on the contrary to make us thrive and do more of that very thing. As a consequence, the way we react to them is our choice and can be reviewed each time one emotion comes to the surface. An additional good reason to review them is that they are more contagious to those around us than the Coronavirus epidemy we’re currently living in Italy! :)
Well, that’s exactly why in today’s episode we’ll learn how fundamental it is to understand and embrace them in order to use them at our advantage rather than continue being used by them.

The neuroscience of emotions
Ever felt completely overwhelmed with emotion? Not knowing how to react to a bad news or unexpected challenge that Life threw at you? Unable to decide whether you should express, repress, or even suppress what you are feeling?

Dare to take risks and reap the rewards!
The only way to outgrow the current version of yourself is to dare to take risks and unlock a new level of YOU, just like in videogames. In general, remember that you probably wouldn’t want to listen to people you aren’t where you’d like to be in life or higher.
So why let them crush your ambitions together with theirs?? Like I always repeat, YOU are the captain of you ship and you can’t possibly let others navigate your life and think you’ll end up with one you’ll be perfectly fulfilled with! So take responsibility of your choices, take ownership of your life, dare to take the risks that are standing between you and your dreamed life and career.
Because only the most precious things and people in life are worth taking real risks for. Conversely, if it’s too easy or everyone has it, you probably shouldn’t put energy in it or WANT it altogether!! Recipe to overcome the fear of failure
When it comes to trying new things and thus probably not succeeding on your very first attempt, YOU choose what you want to do with your fear of failure:
-either to get trapped into the so-called “analysis paralysis” because you tend to overthink everything to make “sure” you won’t fail (even if it’s virtually impossible to make sure of that unless you actually try, trust me) and you procrastinate on your dreams
-or you decide to be “the captain of your ship” like I like to call it and boldly decide to navigate your life as you wish, through the highs and the lows and accept to take each life experience as a lesson to grow from and even are HUNGRY for continuous trial and error to perform best the next time.
This way, you make sure your mind stays away from considerations like the Unknown U, the risk to Fail F, and being preoccupied by the Opinion of others O we just talked about, right?
A great way to switch off the “monkey mind” as we call it and prevent it from jumping from an interpretation to the next is to apply the 5sec rule (5 4 3 2 1 GO) and when fearing the worst case scenario, just ask yourself “so what?” “is it true that it’s a life or death type of situation I can’t survive to”?

Turning fear into purpose: Fears are your compass in life

Fear of change, like most things when it comes to personal development, can be looked at in two very different ways: an amazing opportunity for growth and building up our decision-making and risk-taking muscles. OR, a scary challenge for the suffering it might hold, but mostly avoid it because of our ancestral survival mode craving for security and things known (even if not always enjoyable).
