An unsuspecting timber buyer happens upon Darlene Hulse’s body in the woods just miles from her front door. The discovery and her autopsy leave investigators with more questions than answers as to why this happened to Darlene.

Police work their way through dozens of tips and zero in on two suspects which take detectives from Indiana to Colorado, Alabama, and back in order to interrogate the men they thought could be responsible for Darlene Hulse’s death.

A surprising suspect emerges after a fatal shootout of a robber in Texas. When police are asked to search his Indiana residence, they find bloody clothes and a newspaper clipping about Darlene Hulse’s murder.

Very well researched and written. I was very impressed that as new leads were uncovered the investigation made the adjustments and continued on a new path. The journalists never back down from confrontation with the case officials and showed true impartiality.

Fantastic!
This podcast is so well done - it is smart, engaging, and pulls you in from episode 1. The story is told at an excellent pace & the episodes are the perfect length. I especially love the premise about 2 women who are looking into unsolved crimes and discovering more than the original investigations. This is not a comment on poor policing, I think listeners are aware that small towns don’t have the resources or training that larger cities have. In saying that, I feel that more could have been done during the original investigation if the focus hadn’t been so narrow.
