Richard Dawkins' book The God Delusion has been a run away best seller. It has stimulated global debate, not always very charitable, about whether Dawkins is right to say that it is probably the case that God does not exist. During this weekend philosophers Marianne Talbot and Stephen Law will discuss the debate from a philosophical point of view. What are Dawkins' arguments? Are they good arguments? Are they conclusive arguments? Where does the debate about God's existence stand now?

Question evasion

This was, I'm sorry to say, a pretty bad lecture. Talbot puts forward as her argument for god the idea of folk pyschology and uses the concept that we consider others to be good as a her justification for believing in god. She says this undermines Dawkins, because Science will never be able to explain this. This is utter nonsense. This idea fits perfectly well into evolution (alturism). To make matters worse, when Talbot is questioned on her argument, with evolution brought into it, she totally side steps it!! Watch Talbot's lectures if you want a clearer idea of the importance of both the scientific method, and an (even basic) knowledge of evolution: something which could have been achieved by a thorough reading of Dawkins' other books.
