Welcome to the Holderness Family Podcast! On Facebook and YouTube we are known as The Holderness Family. We make those silly songs and skits with our kids, but on this podcast, it's just us... the real us. The non-Christmas-jammies-us, the why-can't-my-socks-be-on-the-kitchen-counter-us (Penn) the why-do-I-have-to-go-outside-and-talk-to-people-us (Kim). On this podcast, we will share the real-life ups and downs of living together, working together, raising kids together, in what we hope is a funny and entertaining way. We will be taking questions that we are likely unqualified to answer (absolutely unqualified to answer) but we are hoping that the show will make all of your beautiful families realize you're not alone. You're not alone. We are all a hot mess... a HolderMess. The HolderMess: the Holderness Family PodcastThank you for subscribing and listening!Hosted by Kim & Penn HoldernessProduced by Max Trujillo

What Advice We Would Tell our Newlywed Selves

What Advice We Would Tell our Newlywed Selves

Someone recently asked us, “What advice would you give to a newlywed couple?” and we realized... we had a lot to say. We’ve been married long enough that we have to do math in our heads to remember how long it’s been (it’s been 16 ¾ years). Going through all the things we would tell our newlywed selves refreshed strategies that have helped us be better at being married, too. We can’t go back and tell our newlywed selves this now, but maybe sharing what we’ve learned along the way can help someone else out there. (Also Penn believes he has the best idea ever for wedding gifts: registering for marriage coaching.) You’ll have to listen to find out more.

    About the Holderness Family
: Penn, Kim, Lola, and Penn Charles Holderness create original music, parodies, and Vlogs for YouTube and Facebook to poke fun of themselves and celebrate the absurdity in circumstances most families face in their day to day life. They published "Christmas Jammies" in December 2013 and life hasn't been the same. Since then, their popular parodies, "All About That Baste", "Baby Got Class," and original music "Snow Day" have received national news coverage. Penn, the Dad, took a chance and left his job as a news anchor to join his wife Kim, the Mom, at their video production and digital marketing company, Greenroom Communications, LLC. Lola and Penn Charles are always happy, respectful and eat all of their vegetables (that last sentence is a lie).

Amazing Race Recap - Ep 4 (Bonus)

Amazing Race Recap - Ep 4 (Bonus)

For me, sometimes just showing up is a victory. Never has it been more true for me than showing up to start The Amazing Race, AGAIN. But we did it. After a 19 month pause in production, we restarted The Race. (SPOILER ALERT) In today’s recap we talk about our emotions going back, my mini-breakdown at a challenge and we chatted with our friends Moe Badger and Mike Norwood who, unfortunately, were eliminated last night.
Tell us your questions and we will try to answer them in these recaps next week! Call 323-364-3929 or e-mail us at holdermesspodcast@gmail.com.

Part 2 - Are You Living In The Wrong Story? with Ian Morgan Cron

Part 2 - Are You Living In The Wrong Story? with Ian Morgan Cron

This week we complete the second half of our interview with Ian Morgan Cron. We've never done this before, but there was so much good stuff that it had to be a two-part podcast. (And yes, we are asking Ian to bill us for the therapy session.) This week we dive into Kim's struggles as an Enneagram 1 and things get emotional. We also give an overview on all the enneagram types.
Ian has released a wonderful new book called The Story of You. It is an enneagram-based book that not only talks about your type, but also the common broken childhood stories we tell ourselves and how we can write new ones. You can learn more about Ian and his work here and buy his latest book here.

Amazing Race Recap - Ep 3 (Bonus)

Everyone has a story about what they were doing when the world shut down in 2020. Our story? Well, we finally get to tell you. We had just finished leg 3 of The Amazing Race in Glasgow, Scotland. (Spoiler Alert: We WON the leg, by the way!)
In this week’s recap, we talk about what it was like on this leg of the Race and what was going through our minds when we learned that we’d be going home. Tell us your questions and we will try to answer them in these recaps next week! Call 323-364-3929 or e-mail us at holdermesspodcast@gmail.com.

Part 1 - Are You Living In The Wrong Story? with Ian Morgan Cron

Part 1 - Are You Living In The Wrong Story? with Ian Morgan Cron

This week we had Ian Morgan Cron on our podcast to discuss his new book, The Story of You. It’s an enneagram-based book that not only talks about your type, but also the common broken childhood stories we tell ourselves and how we can write new ones. There was so much good stuff that we covered, we felt it had to be a two part podcast. In Part 1, we discussed Enneagram 7 (Penn) and how they can sometimes be guilty of toxic positivity. Enneagram 7’s have a hard time accessing their full range of emotions, or allowing themselves to feel pain and suffering. Penn discussed his experience with his own parents now in assisted living and dealing with dementia. (Let’s just say, we are asking Ian to bill us for the therapy session.)
You can learn more about Ian and his work here and buy his latest book here.

    Amazing Race Recap - Ep 1 & 2 (Bonus)

    Amazing Race Recap - Ep 1 & 2 (Bonus)

Watching ourselves on The Amazing Race is supposed to be the fun part. We’ve already done all the work and we know how the story ends. What I didn’t account for is how watching the challenges would make my body re-live the stress and anxiety of the race all over again. [SPOILER ALERT] In week one, we discuss Penn’s ADHD… the blessing and the curse. It may have gotten us through the art puzzle in the first leg but it also cost us time on the Mail Rail clue the next day. We also revisit the Cake Flag challenge and why we thought you only had to make a flag.. Just any ol’ flag.

Sylphie9 ,

Can they please be my neighbours?

Loved their YouTube videos and then finally decided to check out their podcast. I was initially worried that this quirky, hilarious, loving YouTube family would be different on a podcast, like snobby or super judgey or maybe they’d be mean or something - I dunno. Nope, they’re flipping hilarious and relatable. I’ve straight-up LOLed while listening to them on multiple occasions.

Also, at the moment they have these Bonus Episodes about the Amazing Race and it’s just so cool to watch them on that show and then hear their updates!

Anyway, totally worth a listen. <3

Jimwaun ,

Just found you guys

Helping us through this pandemic - one episode at a time!

There are a few families who have helped the world make it through this pandemic, by putting a smile on people’s faces. And the Holderness Family are one of these. I have loved watching their videos, but just today discovered the podcast. I started at the most recent and I love how open, honest and real Penn
