Surprisingly interesting conversations with leaders, entrepreneurs and inspiring people.
INSPIRE: Gayathri Shukla - Founder, Campfire Kinship
Gayathri Shukla is the devoted founder of ‘Campfire Kinship’, an organization created to help build inclusive cultures through elevated storytelling. After working in leadership roles within the engineering industry for 17 years, she began observing how a diverse and inclusive team could thrive. These teams leveraged every team member’s skillsets, perspectives and potential to achieve success. These experiences amplified her passion for inclusion and diversity.
Gayathri has recently published a book called “Landed: Transformative Stories of Canadian Immigrant Women”. This book was written for readers to see the world through the eyes of an immigrant; the diverse range of their emotions and the success and improvement that they bring to Canada through their various skillsets.
CREATE: Troy Nebeker - Photographer
Meet Troy Nebeker, the man who mocks fear and lives for experiences.
Troy is a graphic designer, art director, creative director, agency owner and freelancer and most recently, a professional photographer. There’s little that Troy can’t do. He continues to learn and grow without letting fear stop him, quoting, “If an opportunity comes up, I’m gonna say yes. Pure and simple. If I don’t know what I’m getting myself into or if I’m gonna be able to do it, I’ll figure it out”. Troy lives with this mindset to inspire his kids and motivate himself to help others.
In 2013, Troy’s wife was diagnosed with breast cancer. This took a huge toll on Troy, triggering him to push aside his fears and create the ‘Monster and Sea’ organization, which aimed to raise funds for people suffering from cancer. Through this organization, Troy started an event called “The 24”, a 24-hour paddle to experience a tiny fraction of the suffering of families who have someone with cancer. It started in Seattle with 6 paddlers, and it grew to 50+ teams across Canada, the U.S. and Cayman Islands, raising $500,000 collectively.
More recently, Troy has taken up professional photography with hopes that through his camera, he can capture moments that aren’t typical and bring those to life. He explains, “I love it so much that I would do it for free.”

LEAD: Francine Gomes - Co-Founder, Cluck N Cleaver
Today I connected with my friend Francine Gomes, co-founder of Cluck N Cleaver, to discuss her ideas on leadership. We also discuss the challenges Francine deals with on a daily basis - inflation, supply chain issues, staffing shortages - and how she overcomes them.
And since Francine did open Cluck N Cleaver with her sister Nicole Gomes - we needed to talk about how they’ve managed to build a successful business and still remain close. No doubt their mother, who Francine credits as one of her mentors, has something to do with that!
I have been fortunate to work with Francine over the past few years through Alberta Beer Festivals and have always admired her passion. I’m grateful that she has allowed me to share her story - I hope that you enjoy our conversation.
