17: Four Ways to Find Community

We're chatting about four ways to find community, while tucked away in blankets because it's chilly today!

    Four Ways to Find Community:

Get involved in a local church. Don't just be a Sunday attender, that's not a good way to find community. You need to link in.

Paid membership group. Ashley shares about the Well Collaborative. Mastermind. Going to school.

Volunteer somewhere. Like-minded people gather around causes. People who care about people are people you will want to surround yourself with. How much effort are you willing to put into getting to know people?

You create it. Ashley has an annual "Flake" party once a year. Another way to create community is to extend invites to others. A walking group. You can also volunteer to be a leader in a group that's already going.

How have you intentionally gone out and created community?

16: Connection, What it is and why it matters for LEAD Women.

Today on the LEAD Women Podcast, Ashley and Carmen are chatting about connection and what it means for LEAD Women and their lives.

In this episode, Ashley shares some interesting observations about her millennial mindset and her annual "Flake" party.

Practicing presence is about connection, and we often find ourselves very lonely. Are we willing to initiate contact? Who can I reach out to? What communities can I connect in?

When was the last time you invited someone over? Carmen and Ashley share a bit of their upbringing and how Sunday lunches were an integral part of connecting. Carmen also shares how the Birkman Assessment helped her learn more about her husband, and Ashley's dad, Albert.

Be Good With Good Enough. Are you able?

Be Good With Good Enough. Are you able?

    Hey, friends.

Sometimes that perfection we long for keeps us paralyzed, doesn't it? Are you able to be good with good enough?

Excellence is not a requisite for starting. Excellence is something that comes with failure, iteration, incremental steps forward. And you've got to start somewhere. - Liz Forkin Bohannon

I am one who wants perfection. Who wants excellence in the things she does.  But I also know that I've got to do work towards my goals and then allow feedback and assessment and learning to help me refine. For example, when I was first starting out as a preacher I knew that I had a long way to go, but if I didn't take the opportunities (sorry for those of you in my early days, and thanks to those of you who allowed me the opportunity), I would never grow.

So, if you want to build a life of purpose and meaning, you've got to get comfortable with this principle of Be Good with Good Enough. It's kind of like GETMO (good enough to move on) which Craig Groeschel spoke about at the 2019 Global Leadership Summit.

In today's podcast episode, I'm talking about the Be Good with Good Enough principle from Liz Forkin Bohannon's book Beginner's Pluck*: Build Your Life of Purpose and Impact Now. It can be purchased here if you don't yet own it.

As always, I welcome your comments in the comment section below. What are you learning from this book or these podcasts?
